Late last week, The Broadway Show League kicked off its 57th season with Catch Me If You Can star Aaron Tveit and former New York Yankee player Jeff Nelson collectively throwing out the first pitch of the season. Joining them in the game were Broadway favorites including Will Swenson, Greg Jbara, Edie Falco, Billy Crudup, Tom Wopat, Mitchell Jarvis, Chad Kimball, Darren Ritchie and more! On May 12, SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark unveiled the new version of the mega musical. The official opening night of the new SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark is set for Tuesday, June 14th at the Foxwoods Theatre (213 West 42nd Street). Tickets are now on sale through October 2, 2011, with group tickets on sale through January 8, 2012. Click here for full coverage.

On May 15, the 2011 Fred and Adele Astaire Awards were held at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at NYU. The Fred & Adele Astaire Awards are the only awards to recognize excellence in dance & choreography on Broadway and in film. On hand to celebrate were some of Broadway and film's greatest talents including Daniel Radcliffe, Benjamin Millepied, Sutton Foster, Christie Brinkley, Bebe Neuwirth, Lee Roy Reams, Ava Astaire, Norbert Leo Butz, Aaron Tveit and more. The John F. Kennedy Center's revival production of Follies includes principal casting of Bernadette Peters as Sally Durant Plummer, Jan Maxwell as Phyllis Rogers Stone, Danny Burstein as Buddy Plummer, Ron Raines as Benjamin Stone, and Elaine Paige as Carlotta Campion. The cast of THE BOOK OF MORMON signed copies of the show's Original Broadway Cast Recording from Ghostlight Records this week at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. THE BOOK OF MORMON has been nominated for 14 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and is the winner of the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical and four Outer Critics Circle Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score (Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone), Best Director (Casey Nicholaw and Trey Parker) and Best Actor (Josh Gad). This week on 'Dancing with the Stars' the top 4 pulled out all the stops and got to perform twice in the semi-finals, but Karate Kid Ralph Macchio and partner Karina Smirnoff lost their chance of winning the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy. Next week, Kirstie Alley, Chelsea Kane, and Hines Ward will pull out all the stops in the season finale! Check out images from this week's episode here!

This week on GLEE, the New Directions had to cope with the loss of a friend, while preparing for Nationals in NYC (with the help of Jesse St. James). In next week's season finale, the Glee club meets up with Broadway's Patti LuPone and stops by the Gershwin Theatre to catch WICKED. Check out photos from the episode here.

BroadwayWorld.com excitedly reported last week that NBC has officially picked up the pilot entitled SMASH for a series to begin mid-season. The show, which is about a group of people who come together to put on a Broadway musical was developed by NBC's Robert Greenblatt, Steven Spielberg, and Broadway producing team Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. The 56th Annual Obie Awards were given out at a ceremony this week at Webster Hall in Greenwich Village. The event was co-hosted by S. Epatha Merkerson and David Hyde Pierce, and the awards were presented by Alec Baldwin, Andrew Rannells, Arian Moayad, Frank Wood, Jim Parsons, John Larroquette, Liev Schreiber, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mamie Gummer, Margaret Colin,Nina Arianda, Patina Miller, and Rose Hemingway. Avid Theatricals just opened the Off-Broadway premiere of Lucky Guy, a new musical comedy, written and directed by Willard Beckham. Starring Kyle Dean Massey, Savannah Wise, Leslie Jordan, and Varla Jean Merman, the production plays the Little Shubert Theatre through July 24. Click here for additional production images!
