THE ISLE OF LOVE to tour Scotland in May/June

The Isle of Love is a bittersweet tale of love and loss, recovery and discovery set on a Scottish island and explores the reasons people choose to visit, to remain, to depart and to return. This play with music is infused by the lyrical genius of Adam Ross from indie-pop band Randolph's Leap and addresses the beauty and healing qualities of island life.

Inspiration comes from all sorts of places, as Euan Martin from Right Lines Productions explains:

"I was driving home from work late one night and caught the end of an interview on BBC Scotland's Tom Morton Show. The featured band was Randolph's Leap and Adam Ross was promoting the latest album Clumsy Knot. I was really taken by the song "Isle of Love" and immediately identified with the quirky, humorous lyrics. A search through the band's back catalogue revealed a treasure trove of great songs and the idea for a theatre show began to form. When my colleague Dave Smith and I approached Adam, he was initially surprised by our suggestion that we could weave a tale around a selection of his songs, but he totally engaged with the project. Three years on, The Isle of Love is about to embark on a 4 week Scottish tour!"

The Isle of Love will be performed by a versatile, six-strong cast, including Adam Ross and will feature live music throughout. The show will be directed by Mark Saunders, former Head of the MA Classical and Contemporary Text postgraduate degree at RCS, who has directed several Right Lines shows over the years.

The Isle of Love will be presented in a different format to previous Right Lines shows and is an example of the company's desire to push the boundaries stylistically. At the same time, this new work will fulfil the company aims of being both accessible and relevant to our target audiences across Scotland. Moving from the full blown, feel-good nature of musical comedy Whisky Kisses, through the gritty realism of Be Silent or Be Killed, to the issue based, environmental relevance of our recent award-winning hit Rapid Departure, we are now entering the territory of the Indie-Pop Juke Box Musical, thereby appealing to an additional younger audience, whilst still maintaining our traditional fan base and extending our creative skills set through an artistic collaboration.

The Isle of Love will open at Eden Court, Inverness on 19th May 2018, followed by a four week Scottish tour until 16th June 2018. This production is funded by Creative Scotland and presented by Right Lines in association with Eden Court. The tour is sponsored by The Isle of Harris Distillers Ltd.

Randolph's Leap:

Led by songwriter Adam Ross, Randolph's Leap combine buoyant energy and catchy melodies with tenuous rhyming couplets, self-deprecating, humorous lyrics and unexpected tender moments. The band have released an extensive and beloved back catalogue via DIY labels Lost Map and Olive Grove Records and are set to release a brand new album, 'Worryingly Okay', in May 2018.

Recent years have seen the band curate a series of sell-out music and comedy events titled 'I Can't Dance To This Music', feature Michael Fish in a video for setlist staple 'Weatherman', record repeat sessions on BBC 6Music and perform across the UK, including a solo tour with James Yorkston (Domino).
