One Seat Over: Ten Conversations Between Here and There by Brian S. Brijbag has never been performed anywhere until Saturday night. This is a one-performance-only event—when the lights come up at 7:30 PM, that is it.
The play unfolds across ten different rides: a ferry, a gondola, a duck boat, a dog sled, a wedding carriage, a party bike, a monorail, a kayak, a glacier train, and a riverboat. Two benches. Ten passengers. A whole lot of nowhere to go. Every ride passes one passenger to the next. The woman stranded in a kayak turns up on a glacier train. The man shining shoes in the first scene is still riding in the last. Everyone carries something—grief disguised as gumption, faith stitched together with doubt, stillness mistaken for failure. The Knockturnal noted that Brijbag "adds more humor than Beckett."
Brijbag won BroadwayWorld Awards for Best New Play or Musical and Best Supporting Actor in a Musical, plus the 2026 Verna Safran Prize. His work has been produced off-Broadway at the AMT Theater and The Players Theatre in New York. In the city, his work costs $125. Saturday at Stage West Playhouse, it costs $15.
