The Color Purple will begin previews at The Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway, between W. 52nd & 53rd Streets), on Tuesday, October 25th with opening night set for Thursday, December 1st.

Produced by Scott Sanders, Creative Battery, Roy Furman, Quincy Jones and directed by Gary Griffin, the show is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker and the landmark film by Steven Spielberg. The Color Purple "is an inspiring family saga that tells the unforgettable story of a woman, who, through love, finds the strength to triumph over adversity and discover her unique voice in the world," state production notes. La Chanze is attached as the show's star, though no other casting has been announced.

The Color Purple, which premiered at Atlanta's ALLIANCE THEATRE in Fall 2004, features music and lyrics by Grammy Award-winning composer/lyricists Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray and a book by Pulitzer Prize-winner Marsha Norman. With choreography is by Donald Byrd, the production features sets by Tony Award-winner John Lee Beatty, lighting by Tony Award-winner Brian MacDevitt, costumes by Paul Tazewell and sound by Jon Weston.
