New World Theatre Presents IT'S ACADEMIC This Summer

It's Academic is an evening of one act plays centered on the theme of education and academia. Performances at the Hatbox Theatre, located at the Steeplegate Mall (by Bon Ton's), Concord, NH. Production runs July 27 through August 5. Showtimes are 7:30 pm Friday and Saturday, and 2pm on Sunday. In 2017 New World Theatre put out a call for plays centered on an academic theme, and from those submissions, four plays were selected to comprise this production entitled, It's Academic . The stories include a philosophy professor, whose forced retirement causes him to deeply examine his life ( An Unexamined Life , by William Ivers), two grade schoolers, who are trying to make sense of the current political climate over a box of Milk Duds ( Idealogues , by Jack Neary), an extravagant escape to a luxury hotel suite, that only provides a temporary reprieve from reality ( Easter at the Entreé Gold , by John Minigan), and a High School English class dealing with school bureaucracy, student apathy, and an active shooter drill ( An Ordinary Day With Bullets by Walter A. Freeman).

William Ivers is s a teacher and writer whose work has been featured in various publications. He won the prestigious Northeastern Playwriting Competition with his original one­act play, An Unexamined Life. Walter Freeman is a teacher, freelance writer, and drama director who has been working in school and community theater for over three decades. Jack Neary's plays have been produced all over the United States, in Canada and in Europe. His 2017 play, Trick or Treat , received its World Premier at Northern Stage in Vermont, and featured Emmy Winner Gordon Clapp. John Minigan's plays have been produced throughout the US and in Canada, Europe, Asia, and Australia, and he is also a former winner of the Northeastern Playwriting Competition

New World Theatre is a Production Company focused on developing, producing, and publishing new theatre works.

Hatbox Theatre is a live performance arts space with a mission to create a cooperative community to develop unique, intimate experiences for both audiences and artists.
