NASA Art Exhibit featured at Peninsula Fine Arts Center
HAMPTON, Va., April 5, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ The Peninsula Fine Arts Center in Newport News, Virginia, will host Soaring, a NASA art exhibition from April 8 through June 25, 2017. The exhibit honors the 100th anniversary of NASA Langley Research Center.
On opening day Saturday, April 8, the arts center will host a community day, with free admission to the gallery and engaging exhibits and outdoor activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., including tours of NASA Langley's new traveling centennial trailer.
Since it was created in 1962, the NASA Art Program has produced more than 3,000 works of art.This exhibition will feature more than 20 of them, including paintings, photographs, drawings and mixed-media works dating from the early 1960s to 21stcentury.
Artists include Robert McCall, Andy Warhol, Annie Leibovitz, Nam June Paik, William Wegman and Chakaia Booker. A few supplemental pieces from private collections will round out the aeronautics and space exhibit.
