Molly Shannon joins Will Ferrell as a member of a production team for a high school production of Grease, in the latest episode of Saturday Night Live.
In the sketch Will Ferrell reprises his role of over-the-top high school drama teacher, Mr. Koenig, as he prepares to announce the cast. Many members of the SNL ensemble are included in the sketch portraying a group of anxious theater students who are eagerly awating the reveal. But instead of a straight forward reading of the list, Ferrell turns the announcement into a teasing spectacle.
Shannon makes a surprise cameo as the school's handsy and eccentric choir director. Her appearance amplifies the chaos, as she matches Ferrell’s theatrical energy and joins in on emotionally tormenting the students. Both Ferrell and Shannon bring absurd drama-teacher intensity, turning a simple cast announcement into a full emotional meltdown.
The sketch is a follow-up to the earlier “Cast List” sketch about a production of Bye Bye Birdie, which also starred Ferrell.
