Daniel Sullivan to Helm Steven Levenson's New Play IF I FORGET; Off-Broadway Dates Set!

As previously announced, Roundabout Theatre Company will present former Roundabout Underground playwright Steven Levenson's (The Unavoidable Disappearance Of Tom Durnin; Dear Evan Hansen) new play, If I Forget, directed by Daniel Sullivan.

If I Forget will begin preview performances on February 2, 2017 and opens officially on February 22, 2017 at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre. This is a limited engagement Off-Broadway through April 30, 2017.

If I Forget is a sharply funny, unflinchingly honest new play about the stories we choose to believe, the compromises we can't avoid and the hurt only our nearest and dearest can inflict.

In the final months before 9/11, liberal Jewish studies professor Michael Fischer has reunited with his two sisters to celebrate their father's 75th birthday. Each deeply invested in their own version of family history, the siblings clash over everything from Michael's controversial scholarly work to the mounting pressures of caring for an ailing parent. As destructive secrets and long-held resentments bubble to the surface, the three negotiate-with biting humor and razor-sharp insight-how much of the past they're willing to sacrifice for a chance at a new beginning. If I Forget tells a powerful tale of a family and a culture at odds with itself.

Roundabout is pleased to welcome back playwright, Steven Levenson. After the success of The Language of Trees in 2008 at Roundabout Underground, Roundabout commissioned Steven to write The Unavoidable Disappearance of Tom Durnin that premiered at the Laura Pels Theatre in 2013. Roundabout welcomes Daniel Sullivan back to the Laura Pels, where he last helmed the theater's inaugural, and award winning, production of Intimate Apparel.

Steven Levenson's (Playwright) plays include The Unavoidable Disappearance Of Tom Durnin (Roundabout Theatre Company, Outer Critics Circle Award), Core Values (Ars Nova, Drama Desk Nomination for Outstanding Play), The Language of Trees (Roundabout), Seven Minutes In Heaven (Colt Coeur; Emerging America Festival/Huntington Theater Company), and the book for the original musical Dear Evan Hansen, with music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (upcoming: Broadway). His work has been seen and developed by Lincoln Center Theater, Manhattan Theatre Club, Atlantic Theater Company, MCC Theater, and The Araca Group. His plays are published by Dramatists Play Service and Playscripts. A graduate oF Brown University and former Artist in Residence at Ars Nova, he has received new play commissions from Roundabout, Lincoln Center, MCC, and Ars Nova. Currently a writer and producer on Showtime's Masters Of Sex, he is a founding member of Colt Coeur and an alumnus of MCC's Playwrights Coalition and Ars Nova's Play Group.

Daniel Sullivan (Director). Daniel Sullivan most recently directed Sylvia, The Country House, The Snow Geese, and Glengarry Glen Ross on Broadway. For The Public Theater, Sullivan directed Cymbeline, King Lear, Comedy of Errors, As You Like It, All's Well That Ends Well, The Merchant of Venice, Twelfth Night, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Stuff Happens and The Merry Wives of Windsor. Among his Broadway credits are Orphans, The Columnist, Good People, Time Stands Still, Accent on Youth, The Homecoming, Prelude to a Kiss, Rabbit Hole, After the Night and the Music, Julius Caesar, Brooklyn Boy, Sight Unseen, I'm Not Rappaport, Morning's at Seven, Proof, the 2000 production of A Moon for the Misbegotten, Ah, Wilderness!, The Sisters Rosensweig, Conversations with my Father, and The Heidi Chronicles. Among his Off-Broadway credits are The Night Watcher, Intimate Apparel, Far East, Spinning into Butter, Dinner with Friends, and The Substance of Fire. From 1981 to 1997, he served as artistic director of Seattle Repertory Theatre. Sullivan is the Swanlund Professor of Theatre at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
