CAT'S IN THE CRADLE Documentary To Screen At Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame
The Harry Chapin documentary features BILLY JOEL, PAT BENATAR, and DEE SNIDER at Stony Brook venue
The Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame (LIMEHOF) will host an encore screening of the award-winning documentary "Cat's in the Cradle 50th Anniversary: The Song That Changed Our Lives" on June 19th at 7pm at LIMEHOF's Stony Brook village location (97 Main Street). The event is free for members and $10 movie ticket for non-members. Tickets are available online and at the door.
The film's producers, S.A. Baron and Jason Chapin (Harry's son) will be there to participate in the Q&A. The film celebrates LIMEHOF inductee Harry Chapin (from Huntington), legendary Long Island singer-songwriter, philanthropist and founder of Long Island Cares. The event will also double as a food drive, accepting donations for Long Island Cares.

"Cat's in the Cradle 50th Anniversary: The Song That Changed Our Lives" celebrates LIMEHOF inductee Harry Chapin and features LIMEHOF inductees Billy Joel, Pat Benatar, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels and Dee Snider.
The film was shown and won the "Best Feature" Award in the inaugural LIMEHOF Music Documentary Film Festival in August of 2025. The film features several LIMEHOF inductees including Billy Joel, Pat Benatar, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels and Dee Snider discussing with the song and Chapin's life and music means to them.
"It was such an honor for us to be part of the very first LIMEHOF Documentary Film Festival and we are all very excited to be back for an encore presentation of our film," said Rick Korn, the film's director. "What amazes me about this film and the song is the multi-generational and multi-cultural effect it has on people globally. The film demonstrates the power of Harry and Sandy Chapin's song to put a mirror up to yourselves and change lives."
LIMEHOF's local filmmaker series recognizes local Long Island filmmakers. S.A. Baron from Lawrence, will be there to participate in the Q&A.
"What a fantastic way to ring in Father's Day Weekend," said S.A. Barron, film producer. "I feel so blessed and honored to help echo Harry and Sandy's ode to parenthood."
The event will also pay homage to Harry Chapin's organization, Long Island Cares, which he founded in 1980. Chapin was a dedicated hunger activist who passionately supported food banks and fighting food insecurity. He was awarded a Congressional Gold Medal for his efforts, which is proudly displayed at LIMEHOF. As part of the event, LIMEHOF will be encouraging people to bring food donations for Long Island Cares that night.
"I'm so grateful to LIMEHOF for including our Harry Chapin - Cat's in the Cradle film in their first film festival last year and giving it the Best Feature Film award," said Jason Chapin, who is Director of Workforce Development at The Westchester County Association. "I'm looking forward to being there on June 19th when they are showing the film about my father's iconic song during Father's Day weekend."

Cats in the Cradle 50th Anniversary is a feature length documentary film about the iconic song that has changed the lives of millions of parents and children around the world. The story is about the powerful universal effect the song has had on generations of parents regardless of nationality, ethnicity, or age. The song was written by Harry Chapin and his wife Sandy in 1974 and explores the relevance and power of the song 50 years later. The song was written as a poem by Sandy about the father of her first husband who never had time for his children. It was given to Harry as a warning to not be that kind of Dad after their son Josh was born, While the film explores Harry's fatherhood by his children, the story is really about all of us. With interviews with people from around the world who point to the song as a lesson on being a parent that is present in their children's lives.
Superstar music artists who have recorded the song or knew Harry including Billy Joel, Pat Benatar, Dee Snyder, Judy Collins, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels. Ugly Kid Joe, Mandy Patinkin, and others tell their life stories about the effect the song has had on them. YouTube Reaction videos from the younger generation from all over the world adds a youthful and entertaining element to the film Pop culture references are sprinkled throughout the film showing the power of the song in all parts of society adding a very fun and entertaining element to the film.

Mr. Chapin is Director of Workforce Development at The Westchester County Association, an economic development organization. He previously worked for The City University of New York, The State University of New York and The WorkPlace, Inc. and has managed programs that have provided education, training and employment services to 25,000 unemployed and underemployed individuals.
Jason received his B.A. from Colgate University and his M.B.A. from Fordham University. He previously served on the boards of The Harry Chapin Foundation and Child Care Council of Westchester and is currently on the Westchester Putnam Workforce Development Board.
Mr. Chapin was a producer of "Harry Chapin: When In Doubt, Do Something", an award-winning documentary film about his father's musical career and humanitarian work.
