Review: POLICE COPS at 59E59 Theaters for Zany Fun

Everybody needs a good laugh. That's just what you'll get when you see Police Cops at 59E59 Theaters. The show is one of the productions that wraps up the theater's annual Brits Off Broadway Festival of shows. Presented by New Diorama Theatre, this imaginative, zany show is written, directed and performed by the award-winning troupe, The Pretend Men. Rookie "police cop," Jimmy Johnson tries to fulfill his brother Sammy's dying request that he become "the best damn police cop ever." On orders from Officer Malloy, Jimmy sets off to pursue a notorious Mexican drug lord with assistance from a shunned lawman named Harrison. There are so many twists and turns in this fast paced show that you don't know what will happen next or what the characters will do. This is comedy at its best, full of riotous surprises.

The Pretend Men troupe includes Nathan Parkinson, Zachary Hunt and Tom Roe. All three prove their talents as actors, comedians, athletes, and even dancers. Their collective performance has great physicality that adds to the hilarious mayhem. Each member of the company masters quick changes with a clever variety of costumes and props.

The Creative Team has brought Police Cops to the stage with lighting design by Adam Bottomley and sound design by Nathan Parkinson. The Production Team includes AEA Stage Manager, Whitney M. Keeter; Producer, Nathan Parkinson; and Dramaturge, Nasi Voutsas.

The Pretend Men are now performing Police Cops and its sequel Police Cops in Space at 59E59 Theaters. These ingenious shows take their inspiration from the 1980's genre of "buddy cop" movies. See one, see both. Relax and enjoy!

Police Cops runs for 50 minutes with no intermission. It is being performed for a limited engagement through Sunday, July 1 at 59E59 Theaters.
