Big Bad Voodoo Daddy Holiday Show Comes To Poway

For a quarter of a century, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's unique take on American swing and jazz music has thrilled audiences around the world. Since its formation in the early 1990s in Ventura, California, the band has toured virtually nonstop, performing on average more than 150 shows a year, and has produced a sizable catalog of recorded music, with sales of over two million albums to date. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy has reminded the world that it's cool to swing and continually works to promote and revitalize swing music.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - famously named after an autograph by blues legend Albert Collins - was co-founded by lead singer and guitarist Scotty Morris and drummer Kurt Sodergren more than 25 years ago. Other members of its original line-up are Dirk Shumaker, double bass and vocals; Andy Rowley, baritone saxophone and vocals; Glen "The Kid" Marhevka, trumpet; Karl Hunter, saxophones and clarinet; and Joshua Levy (piano and arranger).

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's unique and spirited "Wild and Swingin' Holiday Party" has become an eagerly anticipated annual event. Drawing on a rich catalog of holiday classics and Christmas originals from the band's two full-length holiday albums, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy brings its world-renowned live show and fun and quirky take on the holidays to the start of the season.

Fun arrangements of classics in Big Bad Voodoo Daddy style can include "Jingle Bells," "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," and "Winter Wonderland." The Andrew's Sisters meets the blues in their version of "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer." The band rips through Chuck Berry's "Run, Run Rudolph," Lou Rawls' "Merry Christmas Baby," and slows things down for Elvis Presley's "Blue Christmas." Expect a detour to the Caribbean for a calypso-style "A Party for Santa," just to keep things interesting. The band also takes a moment to reflect on the beauty and spirituality of the holidays with such moving arrangement s as "We Three Kings."

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy has always made writing original music a priority and the holidays are no exception. "Rockabilly Christmas," "Last Night (I Went out with Santa Claus)," "Christmas Time in Tinsel Town," and the beautiful and reflective "It Feels Like Christmas Time" are the band's take on the many feelings of the holidays.

The band has appeared in concert venues around the world. It has sold out concerts from the Hollywood Bowl to Lincoln Center, and appeared with many of the country's finest symphony orchestras. Its television credentials include Dancing with the Stars and Superbowl xxIII. Through it all, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy continues its decades-long mission to celebrate and rekindle America's love affair with swing music.

The 800-seat Poway Center for the Performing Arts is located at 15498 Espola Rd. at the corner of Titan Way in Poway.
