The critically acclaimed Ailey II - Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will perform an exciting and innovative evening of dance for the 65th anniversary fundraising celebration of Stamford's Yerwood Center, on Saturday, October 25, 8 p.m., at The Palace, 62 Atlantic Street, Stamford.  Honorary chairpersons are Mrs. Rachel Robinson and Congressman Christopher Shays.

According to Richard Tannenbaum, the chair of the Yerwood Center's 65th anniversary committee, "The Yerwood Center's presentation of Ailey II is a celebration of Dr. Joyce Yerwood's love of and commitment to the arts and our 65th year of serving Stamford's diverse communities.  The funds generated through the Ailey II event will help maintain the Yerwood Center's progressive programming and will allow the Yerwood Center to continue to be a resource for Stamford's young people and families."

Congressman Christopher Shays stated, "The Yerwood Center is an essential resource to Stamford's West Side community.  As a long time supporter of the Yerwood Center, I urge everyone to support the Yerwood Center and to join the 65th anniversary celebration by attending the Ailey II performance on October 25."

Ailey II is universally renowned for merging the spirit and energy of the country's best young dance talent with the passion and creative vision of today's most outstanding emerging choreographers.  The company's strength, agility and grace of body and soul bring to the stage stirring, powerful performances.  They offer an exhilarating repertoire that includes Alvin Ailey's timeless classics and thrilling new works.

Alvin Ailey personally appointed former Ailey dancer, Sylvia Waters, as artistic director in 1974. Under her direction, Ailey II has become one of the most popular dance companies in the country, combining a rigorous touring schedule with extensive community outreach programs, for which the company has received numerous honors, awards and proclamations.

Yerwood Center is a community resource center providing educational and personal development opportunities to Stamford's diverse community.  The Center offers after school programs for elementary, middle and high school students, operates a community computer lab open six days a week, hosts senior programs, offers YES Summer Camp, and sponsors sport leagues, swimming programs and many more activities from its location on Fairfield Avenue in Stamford.

Performance-only tickets are $50 and $40.  Tickets for prime seating at the performance and post-performance 65th anniversary party are $130.  The party, located at The Palace, will feature music, dancing, food and drinks.

Tickets may be purchased online at www.scalive.org (Stamford Center for the Arts).  For more information, contact the Yerwood Center at (203) 327-2790 or visit www.yerwoodcenter.org
