A NIGHT WITH Janis Joplin, the new Broadway musical, is celebrating Joplin's birthday with special activities at the theatre and online on Sunday, January 19. At the theatre for both the matinee and evening performances, there will be a special photo booth, supplied by Top Hat Photo Booths, where audience members can write special messages in honor of Joplin's birthday and take photos with the messages. Following the performance the cast will give a special birthday salute to Joplin. For the evening performance only, there will be custom Joplin birthday cupcakes for audience members as they leave the theatre supplied by Sugarush in Red Bank.

For fans of A Night With Janis Joplin who are unable to be at the theatre on Sunday, starting at 7 PM there will be an online celebration of Joplin's birthday. A NIGHT WITH Janis Joplin has been hailed by critics and has audiences leaping to their feet and dancing in the aisles. Here's a sampling of some of the critical acclaim for the show on Broadway: "A Night With Janis Joplin is an onstage party featuring Mary Bridget Davies who rockets through at least a dozen of Joplin's best-known songs, and sings them with a throbbing fervor that is often riveting," (New York Times); "This new musical provides a rockin' good time" (Associated Press); "Mary Bridget Davies gives an ecstatic star turn. She looks like Joplin, sings like Joplin, and howls like Joplin in a show and a role-of-a-lifetime that she owns. It's not only an amazing performance; it's also a generous one. It had better be, because the four women sharing the stage with Davies are delivering death-defying performances," (Variety); and "Randy Johnson's exuberant, phenomenally well-executed show features impeccable performances of 'Summertime,' 'Piece of My Heart,' 'Cry Baby,' and 'Me and Bobby McGee,' backed by one of the best rock bands ever heard in these precincts" (Bloomberg News).

Mary Bridget Davies has taken the country by storm and has been listed on several yearend best lists for her performance as Janis Joplin on Broadway. The cast also includes Taprena Michelle Augustine (The Book of Mormon), Tony Award nominee De'Adre Aziza (Passing Strange), Nikki Kimbrough (Dreamgirls) and NaTasha Yvette Williams (The Color Purple) who play Joplin's backup singers, "The Joplinaires," and are featured as some of the iconic female singers who influenced Joplin's music. They will be joined by Kacee Clanton (A Night with Janis Joplin regionally) as Janis Joplin alternate, Allison Blackwell (The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess) as Joplinaire swing and Alison Cusano (A Night with Janis Joplin regionally) as Joplinaire swing and Janis Joplin understudy.

Like a comet that burns far too brightly to last, Janis Joplin (Mary Bridget Davies) exploded onto the music scene in 1967 and, almost overnight, became the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll. The unmistakable voice filled with raw emotion and tinged with Southern Comfort made her a must-see headliner from Monterey to Woodstock. A Night With Janis Joplin is a musical journey celebrating Janis and her biggest musical influences - trailblazers like Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Odetta, Nina Simone and Bessie Smith, who inspired one of Rock 'n' Roll's greatest legends.

The creative team for A Night With Janis Joplin features writer and director Randy Johnson (Elvis The Concert), recent Astaire Award-winning choreographerPatricia Wilcox (Motown), set and lighting designer Justin Townsend (Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), costume designerAmy Clark (Chaplin), sound designer Carl Casella (Relatively Speaking), projection designer Darrel Maloney (American Idiot), music director Ross Seligman (One Night With Janis Joplin across the country), and original music director and arranger Len Rhodes (Mike Tyson's The Undisputed Truth in Las Vegas).
