National Portrait Gallery is readying for September and Constitution Day Weekend with multiple events for the entire family! Come for arts and crafts, storytelling, and more, all centered around the Constitution.

EVENTS AVAILABLE:

Friday, Sept. 16, 1-6 p.m.: Create Constitution-themed art at Open Studio Friday
Saturday, Sept. 17, 1-4 p.m., & Sunday, Sept. 18, 2-5 p.m.: Learn more about the Fouding Fathers and design your own comic book at special Portrait Story Days.

Take a lunch break and learn something new on Thursday afternoons.

Sept. 1: "Slow Looking" at Jonathan Yeo's portrait of Kevin Spacey as Frank Underwood
Sept. 8: "Portrait InSight" tour well suited for visitors who are blind or partially sighted, but open to all

Conversation Circles | Fridays, Sept. 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 |10 a.m.-noon - Practice English in small groups while learning more about American history through portraiture.

Open Studio Friday | Fridays, Sept. 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 |1-6 p.m. - Kick off the weekend by unleashing your inner artist! Open Studio Fridays provide a creative space and a different material to work with each week.

Thursday, Sept. 8, 6:30 p.m. - How well do you remember high school English? Test your knowledge of literary giants in the Portrait Gallery's collection while enjoying drinks in the Kogod Courtyard.

Portrait InSight | Saturday, Sept. 10 | noon - Listen to vivid verbal descriptions in a program well-suited for visitors who are blind or partially sighted, but open to all.

Artist Talk: Jessica Todd Harper | Sunday, Sept. 18 | 3 p.m. - Discuss Becky, June, Jessica, and Mary with "The Outwin" award-winning artist Jessica Todd Harper, whose intimate portraits are influenced by their environment.

FAMILY PROGRAMS

Portrait Discovery Kits | Saturdays, Sept. 3, 10, 17 & 24; 1-4 p.m.; Sundays, Sept. 4, 11, 18 & 25; 2-5 p.m. - Learn more about people who have made American history. Pick up an activity kit that guides you through the museum with games and puzzles.

Portrait Story Days | Saturdays, 1-4 p.m.; Sundays, 2-5 p.m.- Listen to a story and create art inspired by someone in our collection. In partnership with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library, DC Public Library.

Young Portrait Explorers: Thomas Jefferson

Monday, Sept. 12, 10:30-11:30 a.m. - Explore the Portrait Gallery in a program that touches on art and history through storytelling in honor of Constitution Day. For toddlers up to age five and their adult companions. Registration required.
