The Society of London Theatre (SOLT) announced today that it will be employing an access officer dedicated to work alongside producers and theatre owners to ensure that access provision is as comprehensive as possible in the build up to the Olympics, Paralympics and beyond.

Mark Rubinstein, President of SOLT, commented that London Theatre was embracing the opportunity to welcome the world in 2012 and committed to offering the best possible customer servIce To visitors from the moment they come in to our iconic and beautiful theatre buildings.

The Society has a long standing commitment to improving access and for the last five years has produced a free Access London Theatre Brochure detailing all the assisted performances (audio-described, captioned and sign language interpreted) taking place in London theatres and giving detailed information about the access provision at each individual venue.

The Society produces a monthly access e-bulletin, which goes out to over 21,500 subscribers, and runs an access diary to ensure that assisted performances do not clash and our audiences have as broad a choice as possible. It also runs signed Theatreland Walking Tours each summer.

As part of its on-going preparation for 2012, the Society will be joining forces with Inclusive London (www.inclusivelondon.com) the new website launched by the Mayor of London detailing access provision across the capital to ensure that the listings for theatres are as detailed as possible.

In preparation for the Olympic year nearly 20 shows have already announced that they are playing in 2012 for which tickets can be booked now. Customers with access requirements are offered excellent rates. Details can be found at www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk/access

Between January and June 2011, there were 230 assisted performances across London, and the Society predicts a marked increase in 2012.
