Will Alan Mingo Jr. Play Lola in Toronto's KINKY BOOTS?

BroadwayWorld Toronto has learned of a rumour that American actor Alan Mingo Jr. will play Lola in the Toronto production of KINKY BOOTS. Mingo Jr. joins Graham Scott Fleming as Charlie Price, a casting which BroadwayWorld previously reported as confirmed. The Toronto production is set to begin performances at The Royal Alexandra Theatre on June 16, 2015.

Nicola Dawn (Cirque du Soleil's Saltimbanco) and Dan Domenech (Broadway's Rock of Ages) have also signed on to join the Toronto cast. BroadwayWorld was additionally alerted on Twitter that Toronto based actor David Lopez will be the Lola understudy.

Update: BroadwayWorld has learned a full casting announcement will be released on 4/22 - and that AJ Bridel has been cast as Lauren.

Mirvish Productions and Mingo Jr. were unreachable for comment and confirmation at press time.

Alan Mingo Jr. previously appeared on Broadway as Sebastian in The Little Mermaid. He also starred as Seaweed in the 1st National Tour of Hairspray, and Simba in the 1st National Tour and Los Angeles companies of The Lion King. He also appeared as Tom Collins in Rent on Broadway, and staged, choreographed, and performed in the Italian production. - Mingo Jr. also performed in the 1st and 2nd National companies of Rent. Most recently he played Donkey in Shrek The Musical's 2010 National Tour.

Graham Scott Fleming is a performer based out of Toronto, Ontario. Recent credits:Featured Artist in Acting Upstage's Uncovered: Elton John & Billy Joel concert, TJ (lead) in Somewhere With You (New York Musical Theatre Festival/ Off-Broadway), Pablo in A Streetcar Named Desire, Ensemble/ Claude and Berger Understudy in The National Tour of HairL, Gabe in Next to Normal, Princeton and Rod in Avenue Q, Roger in Rent, Smudge in Forever Plaid. Graham has also been a part of many different cabarets including Stars Come Out with Theatre By The Bay.

Kinky Boots, the Tony and Grammy Award-winning hit musical, celebrated two-year anniversary on Broadway on Saturday, April 4, 2015. Featuring a Tony Award-winning score by pop icon Cyndi Lauper, a book by Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein, and direction and choreography by Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell, opened to rave reviews on April 4, 2013, at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th St), where it's played 835 performances for over a million people... and counting!

Kinky Boots won six 2013 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score (Cyndi Lauper), Best Choreography (Jerry Mitchell), Best Actor (Billy Porter), Best Orchestrations (Stephen Oremus), and Best Sound Design (John Shivers). In September 2014, Kinky Boots launched its First National Tour, which is doing record-breaking business throughout the country. A Korean-language production ran in Korea from December 2014 - February 2015, and the London production is set to open at the Adelphi Theatre beginning August 21 of this year.

Kinky Boots tells the uplifting and heartwarming tale of Charlie Price, a young man reluctantly taking over his family's struggling business. Charlie meets and finds inspiration in Lola and together, the unlikely pair finds that they have more in common than they ever dreamed possible... and discovers that when you change your mind about someone, you can change your whole world.
