Victoria Playhouse Petrolia opened its 2016 last night to a sold out crowd with Scotland Sings. While the spirit of celebration filled the air in Petrolia, Co-Artistic Director David Hogan spoke of those affected by the fires in Fort McMurray, Alberta. In his pre-show chat with the audience, he announced that all proceeds from the Opening Night performance will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross to aid in relief in Fort McMurray.

"It's clear that we, as Canadians, have to take care of each other and this is one way we can do it. It's a small gesture that we're hoping will go along way. We are thinking of and praying for our Albertans as they face a devastating life altering challenge." - David Hogan

Petrolia Mayor, John McCharles echoed Hogan's sentiments saying, "I am honoured to be Mayor of a town with such a huge heart. The team at the Victoria Playhouse Petrolia are exemplary in their care and attention for people and this is no exception. When it was brought to my attention that the team wanted to do this, I didn't even take pause before offering my full support."

Total donations from the evening's proceeds were over $10,000, which will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross and matched by the Canadian government.

Co-Artistic Directors David Hogan and David Rogers bring the best talent summer theater has to offer to the beautiful town of Petrolia, ON.
