Blues Bawls, a sexy, hilarious Canadian musical farce debuts at Jingles II, 1378 Yonge Street (south of St. Clair) for a four-show run May 2-5, 2017. Curtain is at 8:00 pm. General seating. Arrive early for dinner and drinks.

Blues Bawls has been in the making for over five years, with various readings and incarnations including a staged reading at Canstage under the dramaturgy of David Gale. Kagan wanted to go a different direction with this version. "We modified half a dozen songs to get more of a blues sound out of the piece," says Labe Kagan. "It's less Jewish and more blue-ish," he joked. Lyrics are by Labe Kagan and the music is by Alan Soberman.

Blues Bawls gets its first full staging under the direction of Jacqui Burke with an emphasis on the fun. "This is a real treat for me because we're bringing musical theatre into the world, making it more accessible," Burke said. "I want the show to appeal to the average person but, remember, it's just for adults." There is a language and content warning associated with the piece.

Kagan is quick to point out: "Blues Bawls isn't just comical. It explores our inevitable choice between hedonism and self-control, between balance and self-destruction. In a funny way," says Kagan, grinning.

Blues Bawls is part of the Barloney Series of humorous and accessible site-specific theatre productions currently in development by MHLD Productions...which they look forward to bringing to a bar near you.
