Gladstone Theatre in the Park is excited to present the zany new 1920's musical that has taken Broadway by storm! The original Broadway production won six Tony Awards and five Drama Desk Awards, including the win for Best Musical at both award ceremonies.

"Thoroughly Modern Millie" is a high-spirited musical romp that has all of New York dancing the Charleston. Based on the 1967 film of the same name and taking place in New York City in 1922, "Thoroughly Modern Millie" tells the story of a young small-town girl, Millie Dillmount; who comes to New York City to marry for money instead of love - a thoroughly modern aim in 1922, when women were just entering the workforce. Millie soon begins to take delight in the flapper lifestyle, but problems arise when she checks into a hotel owned by the leader of a slavery ring in China.

It's a New York full of intrigue and jazz - a time when the rules of love and social behavior were changing forever. You won't want to miss it!
The music is by Jeanine Tesori, lyrics by Dick Scanlan and a book by Richard Morris and Scanlan. The style of the musical is comic satire.

Musical numbers include: Not for the Life of Me, What Do I Need With Love and Gimme Gimme.
Presented on the Ibsen Stage at the Amphitheatre in Oak Grove Park, Gladstone, Missouri, August 5th, 6th and 7th 2011 at 8:30 p.m.

In order to preserve the grass, blankets and lawn chairs may not be set out on performance nights until after 3:00 p.m. Anything placed before that time will be removed.
