Artscape has announced its upcoming events and shows, today 14 to 28 August 2013. Details below!

Artscape turns the spotlight on learner development with two school festivals, two stage productions of set works and a high school quiz. In addition the programme for the next two weeks includes ballet, comedy and a mass dance celebration.

Sleeping Beauty - 10 to 18 August 2013 (± 3 hrs)

INTERNATIONAL guest artists join Cape Town City Ballet in this classic ballet at the Opera House. The Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Graham Scott, accompanies the dancers at selected performances. Prices range from R90 to R250.

Kipper and the Island - 12 to 23 August 2013 (± 60 min)

KIPPER, Biff and Chip are on their way to a fancy dress party, when the magical key starts to glow. They end up in a small row boat, find an old map, and the adventure is bound to start at the Theatre. Tickets cost R50.

High School Drama Festival - 12 to 17 August 2013 (± 2 hrs)

HIGH school learners have created original plays around a central theme. A total of 14 plays have been selected for this festival at the Arena. Tickets cost R40. The Awards Ceremony and showcase of the Best Productions take place on Saturday 17 August 2013 and is for invited guests only.

Schools Arts Festival - 12 to 29 August 2013 (± 2 hrs)

THOUSANDS of learners from across the Western Cape congregate for two weeks at Artscape, showcasing their talent in song, music and dance at the Theatre. Tickets cost R40.

Four Seasons - 16 & 17 August 2013 (± 80 min)

THIS dance set work for Grade 12 learners at the Theatre depicts the destruction and deterioration of the human mind regarding life, and the earth. Four Seasons is performed by the Vuyani Dance Company with the backing of live musicians. Tickets cost R80.

Cape Argus Pick n Pay High Schools Quiz - 19 August 2013 (± 3 hrs)

THE final four teams after an eight-week long quiz will go head to head in this general knowledge competition that is based on the content of the Cape Argus at the Opera House. By invitation.

Cirque de la Symphonie - 23 to 25 August 2013 (± 2 hrs)

THE Cape Philharmonic Orchestra presents a brand new production at the Opera House to bring the magic of cirque to the music hall. It is an exciting adaptation of artistic performances widely seen in theatres and arenas everywhere. Artists include the most amazing veterans of exceptional cirque programmes throughout the world - aerial flyers, acrobats, contortionists, dancers, jugglers, balancers and strongmen. Tickets range f rom R190 to R280.

Momentum - 24 & 25 August 2013 (± 2 hrs)

MORE than 100 dancers will celebrate CAFDA Dance Theatre's success over the last 50 years with a pulsating fusion of dance at the Theatre. Directed by Wendi Abrahams. Tickets cost R60.

Doctor Doctor - 27 & 28 August 2013 (± 70 min)

ADMIT yourself to the 'intensive care' of the GP's of Comedy in the show where 'Scrubs' meets 'Monty Python'. A collection of zany sketches at the Arena, offering a humorous glimpse into the lighter side of the medical profession. No under 13's. Tickets cost R69.
