Poster art for UFUNDO

This September, Jazzart Dance Theatre and Unmute Dance Company will embark on a collaboration that symbolises new beginnings. UFUNDO will play at the Artscape Theatre for a short five-performance season. The integrated dance collaboration will form a part of Artscap's Heritage month programme.

Each individual is unique, yet what builds community is when people learn about the sameness and the differences of their diversities, just one of the heart's delights that will emerge when Unmute's Andile Vellem, Zama Sonjica and Yaseen Manuel dance alongside Jazzart's Adam Malebo, Nomfundo Hlongwa and Thabisa Dinga in UFUNDO. The production is will be directed by Sifiso E Kweyama, with choreography by Mziyanda Mancam and Andile Vellem.

UFUNDO follows UNMUTE AND FRIENDS and sees the two dance companies continue their partnership to create a more inclusive experience. UFUNDO, a word which means 'to learn', aims to inspire audiences to reach for their destiny by 'learning' to understand each other, just as Jazzart and Unmute embrace this continuing journey by celebrating each other's strengths and innovations as contemporary dance companies in South Africa.

Performances of UFUNDO take place from 10-12 September at 8pm, with 3pm matinees from 11-12 September. Tickets cost R80, with block bookings of ten of more people paying R65 per ticket. Pensioners, students and scholars can receive further concessions at the box office. Book for the hour-long show at Computicket.
