First class cabaret returns to the Alexander Bar's Upstairs Theatre when DANI AND THE LION runs at the intimate theatre venue in Cape Town this festive season. Featuring songs and stories written and performed by Daneel van der Walt to David Lubbe's accompaniment, the hour-long show is directed by Nicholas Spagnoletti.

The Den is a cabaret bar at the end of the world that has always been plagued by the inevitability of being shut down and its resident act, Dani and Leo, are giving their final performance at the little dive they've come to call home. To celebrate and mourn this occasion, Dani and Leo have put together a special set, an armoury of gutsy, sad and blisteringly funny blues songs and stories.

Winner of a Standard Bank Ovation Award at this year's National Arts Festival, DANI AND THE LION has also been nominated for several of the 2016 BroadwayWorld South Africa Awards, which are presented in collaboration with BroadwayHD.

DANI AND THE LION runs at the Alexander Bar's Upstairs Theatre from 27 December - 7 January at 21:00, with a special night of champagne, shenanigans, and shots on New Year's Eve. Tickets can be booked online at the Alexander Bar website or purchased at the bar. For telephone bookings and enquiries, call 021 300 1652. Alexander Bar & Café is situated at 76 Strand Street in the Cape Town city centre and can be followed on Facebook and Twitter.
