Set the caveman in you free! GROET DIE GROTMAN with Hannes Muller will be performed at the Pro Musica Theatre in Roodepoort from today, 10-13 July 2013. Come and enjoy the antics of Hannes Muller's Caveman in GROET DIE GROTMAN, Koos Kombuis's Afrikaans translation of Rob Becker's landslide comedy, DEFENDING THE CAVEMAN. Directed by Sandra Prinsloo, GROET DIE GROTMAN has set a record in Afrikaans theatre with more than 900 sold out shows!

GREETING THE GROTMAN is a humorous exploration of the differences between men and women and how those differences cause us to be totally misunderstood. "GROET DIE GROTMAN succeeds in touching a deeply rooted universal nerve - the differences between men and women - and it is very nice is that this has been portrayed in a comic manner," says Prinsloo. "The success of GROET DIE GROTMAN can definitely be attributed thereto. A wonderful text by Rob Becker, an equally wonderful translation by Koos Kombuis and Hannes Muller's brilliant performance are definitely reasons why GROET DIE GROTMAN is so popular."

This solo piece has toured across the country for the past four years. "It's great that DEFENDING THE CAVEMAN is being performed in Afrikaans in South Africa," says Becker. "It always makes such a big difference if you can have a theatre experience in your own home language." But how does Becker explain the huge success of the show? "Healing definitely occurs when a couple laughs in a dark theater with hundreds of others and realises they are not alone. And trust me when couples run to their cars, there is already serious ... you know what... happening. Isn't that already worth the price of a theatre ticket?"

Producer Frans Swart says he knew when he obtained the rights to GROET DIE GROTMAN, he realized that this was going to be a very successful production. "But little did we realize that it would be such an amazing runaway success story. From a creative point of view, this team - Sandra, Hannes and Koos - is the best! We tour the production to the smallest and largest towns and cities in the country and it was very important for us to take this comedy to the people. And it makes people talk. Each performance so far has been completely sold out and it's definitely a record for South African theatre. Even today, people return two or three times, each time with new pals, to see the show. GROET DIE GROTMAN has certainly become a legend in South Africa! "

Muller says: "After 900 performances, I still get excited before every performance to tell the show's story to the people. And that's important. GROET DIE GROTMAN gives people a way to understand themselves and their spouses while laughing at each other's flaws. We have interpreted the piece in our own way, in a South African context, but maintained the essence of Becker's original piece. I have fun on stage with the show and believe those who have not seen it yet will have just as much fun. See you at GROET DIE GROTMAN!"
