Artscape initiatives mark the celebration of Youth Month. The programme for the next two weeks includes a new Mike Van Graan play, a titillating concert featuring an internationally renowned violinist and several youth presentations.

PANIC - Until 8 June 2013 (± 75 min)

Polar bears in the Karoo? A tsunami burying Table Mountain? Riding the waves of an oil spill? These are some of the nightmares that keep Thando awake at night. He is the son of a BEE oil millionaire, heir in a new political climate and a beneficiary of climate change. Can he live with it? A fast-paced, provocative reflection on climate change performed by popular Siv Ngesi at the Arena. Tickets cost R100.

AWETHU - Kraal of Dreams - 7 and 8 June 2013 (± 90 min)

Come and celebrate South Africa with music and dance from the Community Plough Back Cultural Ensemble and the Vadhini Indian Arts Academy accompanied by Bongani Sotshononda's Indigenous Orchestra at theTheatre. Also with Melanie Scholtz, Zanne Stapelberg, poet Bulelwa Basse and the Steve Biko Centre's Abelusi dancers and singers. Tickets cost R80.

Sarah Chang in Concert - 9 June 2013 (±2 hrs)

This violin megastar is only one of a small number of professional musicians to be internationally recognised as a 'child prodigy'. She will perform Sibelius' demanding Violin Concerto with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Theodore Kuchar at the Opera House. Other exciting works include Tchaikovsky's Capriccio Italian, Mendelssohn's Symphony No 4 Italian and Sibelius' Finlandia. Tickets range from R280 to R420.

Let's Beat It - 9 June 2013 (± 2 hrs)

The Africa Institute for HIV and AIDS Management, a non-profit organisation linked to the Africa Centre for HIV and AIDS Management at Stellenbosch University, hosts its annual chapter of the "South African Artists for Aids Awareness" concert at the Theatre. South Africa's first UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador, singer, actor and performer Jimmie Earl Perry, is the director of the concert. Tickets cost R100.

African Theatre Initiative Workshops - 12 to 14 June 2013 (Full day)

This initiative kicks off with a symposium and workshops at the iSibaya at the Artscape Festival of Youth. Guests from Africa and the Young People's Theatre Movement in Europe prepare for a Festival of African Youth Theatre and Dance to be held at Artscape in 2015. By invitation.

FIETNA LEKKE JY - 13 to 16 June 2013 (± 95 min)

This Afrikaans comedy at the Arena is set in the Boland in the 1980's. It is about the true friendship of three boys who grew up in a rural environment where culture and politics had a huge influence on their upbringing. These boys share similar identity crises that were ignored in the community. The FIETNA stories, (gossip or trouble stories) still prevails in communities today. Tickets cost R60.

Artscape Youth Jazz Showcase - 14 June 2013 (± 2,5 hrs)

Young professional jazz singers and instrumentalists perform as soloists with a top jazz ensemble at theTheatre. Led by the legendary Camillo Lombard and featuring Cape Town jazz icons such as Kevin Gibson, Peter Ndlala and Gorm Helfjord. Tickets cost R80.

Sekunjalo Youth Jazz Showcase - 15 June 2013 (± 2 hrs)

This annual event at the Theatre raises funds to support primary and high school students from disadvantaged communities in the Western Cape with bursaries and jazz workshops. Featuring Mi Casa and the Delft Big Band. Tickets cost R75.

DCAS Youth Celebration - 16 June 2013 (± 60 min)

The Provincial Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport showcases a selection of their developmental youth projects at the Theatre. These include choral, indigenous, and jazz music, along with hip hop and contemporary dance. Tickets cost R30.

Discover Islam Nasheed - 17 June 2013 (± 2 hrs)

ARTSCAPE hosts this annual competition at the Theatre, featuring Nasheed Islamic vocal music in a cappella or accompanied by a duff (a tambourine sized instrument for background bass). There are two sessions, one for primary schools from 10:00 and one for secondary schools from 16:00. Tickets cost R80 per session.
