McLean Community Players to Present FOOTLOOSE

The McLean Community Players' production of Footloose, the high-energy rock musical based on the movie of the same name, opens Friday, July 8, 2016, and runs weekends through July 24 at McLean's Alden Theatre. Footloose was adapted for the stage by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie. The music is by Tom Snow with additional music by Kenny Loggins, Sammy Hagar, and Jim Steinman and lyrics by Dean Pitchford. Footloose opened on Broadway in 1998 and ran for more than 700 performances. The score features such pop-rock hits as 'Footloose' and 'Let's Hear It for the Boy.' It was nominated for four Tony Awards. Director/Choreographer Shaun Moe leads an award-winning cast and crew for MCP's production of this explosive musical. (more...)

OSF Receives $25,000 Shakespeare in American Communities Grant

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) is one of 40 nonprofit, professional theatre companies chosen to participate in the 2016-17 Shakespeare in American Communities program. OSF will receive a $25,000 grant award from Arts Midwest, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, in support of efforts to expose underserved students and teachers to the works of William Shakespeare. PALS, an original work written by nine students from Spain Park High School and drama teacher Eric Reid St. John, is based on letters from and some of the events of World War I. When the British joined the war, Lord Kitchener, the Secretary of War decided to make brigades out of groups of young men from the same communities, same churches, schools and factories. These PALS brigades would train and fight together. The town of Leeds, England was one of those communities who sent most of their young men into battle together and it is from their stories that SPHS created this piece of art. (more...)

Stage Left Theatre Sets 35th Season

Stage Left Theatre is pleased to announce the programming for its 35th season. The season begins with the world premiere of The Bottle Tree by Beth Kander directed by ensemble member Amy Szerlong. The Bottle Tree was developed through Stage Left's Downstage Left program, at the Ashland New Plays Festival and and has received an Honorable Mention on The Kilroys List for the past two years. Next, in the winter, Stage Left and Cor Theatre present a co-production of What of the Night? by Maria Irene Fornes, directed by Carlos Murillo. This epic meditation on poverty in America was a Pultizer finalist in 1990. Cor Theatre Artistic Director Tosha Fowler says of the partnership, 'With admiration for Stage Left's longevity and the exciting opportunities they provide to artists through their strong commitment to mission, we at Cor are thrilled to announce a collaboration of theatre that is bound to leave you breathless.
