The Metropolitan Museum of Art Considers Evolving Role of Photography During American Civil War

More than 200 of the finest and most poignant photographs of the American Civil War have been brought together for the landmark exhibition Photography and the American Civil War, opening April 2 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Through examples drawn from the Metropolitan's celebrated holdings of this material, complemented by exceptional loans from public and private collections, the exhibition will examine the evolving role of the camera during the nation's bloodiest war. The 'War between the States' was the great test of the young Republic's commitment to its founding precepts; it was also a watershed in photographic history. The camera recorded from beginning to end the heartbreaking narrative of the epic four-year war (1861-1865) in which 750,000 lives were lost. This traveling exhibition will explore, through photography, the full pathos of the brutal conflict that, after 150 years, still looms large in the American public's imagination. (more...)

Jon Ophoff Wins Ragtime Competition at Greenfield Village's 7th Annual Ragtime Street Fair

Jon Ophoff is the winner of the 2013 piano competition at Greenfield Village's seventh annual Ragtime Street Fair. His winning performance was The Cascades by Scott Joplin. After receiving the award, he was invited back for an encore, when he played Graceful Ghost Rag by William Bolcom. Tea parties on the lawn, Gershwin in the theater, and Joplin on the stage are but a few of the delightful events that take place each year during this unique festival. Ragtime, a style of music with 'ragged' or syncopated rhythm saw its heyday from 1897 to 1918. (more...)

Producer Hugh Hysell to Join Cast of MY BIG GAY ITALIAN WEDDING & MY BIG GAY ITALIAN FUNERAL, Begin. 8/31

Tony Award winning Broadway Producer Hugh Hysell returns to his roots as an actor when he joins the cast, assuming the role of the wedding coordinator extraordinaire, 'Maurizio Le Grande' on August 31st for twelve weeks in the Off Broadway Comedies,My Big Gay Italian Wedding, and its sequel, My Big Gay Italian Funeral, at the St Luke's Theatre (308 West 46th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues).
