Stephen Costello Headlines Met's Free Summer Recital Series

Following a string of engagements in Russia and Armenia, Stephen Costello – star of back-to-back productions at the Metropolitan Opera earlier this year – returns New York to headline the company's free annual summer recital series in the city's parks. At Central Park SummerStage (June 12) and Brooklyn Bridge Park (June 14), the Tucker Award-winning tenor joins fellow Met stars soprano Susanna Phillips and mezzo-soprano Elizabeth DeShong for a program of favorite arias and duets, accompanied by pianist Dan Saunders. Larry Gatlin Kicks-Off Summer Season at Spencer Theater

Headlining the Spencer Theater Summer Season 2017 is the classic country praise music of The Blackwood Quartet and the legendary Larry Gatlin of The Gatlin Brothers on Saturday, May 27 at 8 p.m. (Concert tickets are $39-$69). This promises to be a night of pure western-styled gospel beauty with the Blackwood's favorite Christian melodies like How Great Thou Art, Put Your Hand In The Hand, The Light House, Amazing Grace, Peace In The Valley, and many other gospel classics. Western great Larry Gatlin (pictured above), the eldest of the three Gatlin Brothers and writer of all their greatest hits including All The Gold In California and Houston, holds some of the most prestigious awards in the industry. His showcase of gospel and Gatlin favorites will open the second set of music that night, following The Blackwood Quartet (pictured left). The duo of headliners will then come together in our stage lights for an extended encore of songs.  This special evening is being sponsored in-part by Lynn & Bruce Morgan and Sandra & David Barrett. Actor/singer/writer/director Clarke Peters first debuted FIVE GUYS NAMED MOE in the United Kingdom in 1990. Two years later it premiered on Broadway and ran for 445 performances. Over the last several years, FIVE GUYS NAMED MOE has been produced across the United States and the United Kingdom. On May 19, a refreshed version of FIVE GUYS NAMED MOE premiered at the Ebony Repertory Theatre in Los Angeles. The role of Coalhouse Walker Jr. in the Lynn Ahrens-Stephen Flaherty-Terrance McNally musical Ragtime is one coveted by actors of all ages - not the least of whom is Siegel High School student Caleb Mitchell, who took on the challenge of bringing the character to life in his school's production of the show earlier this spring. And for his efforts, Mitchell was one of three finalists for The Spotlight Award, the culmination of the 2016-17 Nashville High School Music Theatre Awards. (more...)

SIDF Faces Unprecedented VISA Obstacles

Increased immigration scrutiny and regulations mean the Seattle International Dance Festival (SIDF) is experiencing new challenges and costs when applying for, and securing, visas for visiting artists. Festival director Cyrus Khambatta explains, "We knew this year would be tough, but we didn't know exactly how resourceful we would have to get." Early on, SIDF heard from dancers who were afraid to enter the US and chose not to participate in the festival because of anticipated difficulties.
