Marilyn L. Donnellan Releases Book on Positive Self ImageMarilyn L. Donnellan Releases Book on Positive Self Image
by BWW News Desk - Jul 27, 2015

Marilyn L. Donnellan has been on an amazing journey; from dealing with childhood bullying and verbal abuse to becoming an internationally published author and motivational speaker, and successful consultant to nonprofits. But there's a twist - she has achieved it all while fighting deep-seated feelings of ugliness and low self worth. In this unique and powerful book, 'Two Faces of Me,' Donnellan explores all the different aspects that make up each of our lives and our self-esteem. She wrote her newest book to inspire readers to focus on positive self-image and to understand our worth in God's eyes. 'We need to learn not to desire to be something we're not. I spent my entire life struggling to accept who I am. And, as I started to get older, I learned there is no manual to tell me how to age gracefully. I learned the hard way that I can't base my sense of self-worth and image on appearance. I earned every aging wrinkle and lump, and I'm learning to cherish them as valuable parts of me,' stated Donnellan. The motivation to write 'Two Faces of Me' was initially to explain what happens when Donnellan's character, Sophie, makes her appearance at workshops and conferences. Sophie has been a helpful object lesson for over 40 years, and in the book, Donnellan wanted to explain why Sophie has such an impact on people. 'The answer is we all have an inner Sophie in us,' said Donnellan, 'and we tend to judge people on the way they look. But, as I thought about how I felt about myself at different times in my life, Sophie became a metaphor for many of my experiences. She has really become an example of how I struggled to build who I am without being false to the real me.' Donnellan didn't write 'Two Face of Me' to share just her personal journey. Her goal was also to share Sophie's journey and how people rarely make an effort to talk to her Sophie personality. 'I can count on one hand the number of people who have come up to Sophie and said, 'Hello,' states Donnellan. 'Often, when I dress up as Sophie for church events, conferences or workshop she will be asked to leave. Even the best-hearted and spiritual people don't know how to handle the Sophies of the world. People act as if Sophie can't hear, see, and doesn't have feelings. It's like they don't realize how they are treating her. I've learned so much about how people treat others by being Sophie.' 'Two Faces of Me' was a difficult book for Donnellan to write for a few reasons. The biggest one was being in the Spotlight and sharing the raw truth of her personal life and her journey as Sophie with readers. 'Everything is told in 'Two Faces of Me' - it's an autobiography that will impart life-changing inspiration to those close to giving up or for anyone lacking self-confidence,' says Halo Publisher Lisa M. Umina. Synopsis: Emotionally damaged by childhood bullying and verbal abuse, M.L. Donnellan takes readers on a rocky journey. Struggling to find herself after an attempted suicide, Donnellan lives her life like an actress, pretending to be what she does not feel. Focused on a lifestyle of over achievement and trying to please others, it is only when she begins to comprehend her worth in God's eyes that she is able to see herself as unique, valuable, gifted and beautiful. What Readers Are Saying: 'Great transparency... easy to identify with... unique use of creativity to enhance message... provides answers.' Diane Hawkins, MA, President, Restoration in Christ Ministries. 'A wonderful book... the reader hears the echoes of their own story and can choose to take steps towards healing through God's mirror of truth.' Kimberly A. Hawkins, Dallas, TX. You can purchase 'Two Faces of Me' through Halo Publishing's website (http://halopublishing.com), Amazon and other online bookstores. Available in Paperback and eBook. Biography: M.L. Donnellan, MS, is a motivational speaker, consultant to nonprofits, internationally published author, a wife, mother and grandmother. Her spiritual gifts are exhortation, administration and teaching. She is a graduate of Multnomah University, George Fox University and Atlantic Coast Theological Seminary, with degrees in Human Resources Management and Christian Administration, and a certificate in Biblical Studies. BWW Reviews: CATCH ME IF YOU CAN at Uptown PlayersBWW Reviews: CATCH ME IF YOU CAN at Uptown Players
by Kyle West - Jul 27, 2015

Famous con artist Frank Abagnale Jr. managed to pass himself off as a pilot, an ER doctor and a lawyer between the ages of 15-21 before finally getting caught. Although he never tried his hand as an actor, Frank Jr.'s biography, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, created dramatic opportunities for two other young stars, first on-screen with Leonardo DiCaprio, and later on Broadway with Aaron Tveit. Although the Broadway producers failed to find the financial (and critical) success that Abagnale and the film producers celebrated (closing after only 6 months), the musical launched a non-union production, which toured the US for another 7 months before rights were released to regional theatres. Now, marking its local debut, Uptown Players' new production is here - and it definitely makes the most of the musical's victories to create a fantastic opportunity for another star in our midst. BWW Reviews: Tragic HOLD THESE TRUTHS at ACT Fails to EngageBWW Reviews: Tragic HOLD THESE TRUTHS at ACT Fails to Engage
by Jay Irwin - Jul 27, 2015

The trouble with one man shows is that it's difficult to make them engaging no matter the subject. Such is the pitfall that Jeanne Sakata's "Hold These Truths", currently playing at ACT Theatre, falls into. This may be an incredibly horrifying thing that happened to this man but unless you have an engaging way to tell it you might as well be trapped with someone at a party as they recount (in detail) their life story. And while that conversation might be ok for a little while, after 90 minutes it becomes wearing. (more...)

Superlative acting, intense staging, and timeless themes are the hallmarks of THE NEW ELECTRIC BALLROOM, Enda Walsh's 2010 Obie Award-winning play now receiving its New England Premiere at Gloucester Stage Company under the direction of Interim Artistic Director Robert Walsh. Its setting in a small fishing village on the west coast of Ireland permeates the story with indigenous peculiarities, but resonates with the realities of life in any little coastal community where gossip and fish tales are the order of the day. BWW Reviews: Guido and the Ladies Who Torment Him - NINEBWW Reviews: Guido and the Ladies Who Torment Him - NINE
by Amanda Finn - Jul 25, 2015

Luisa's husband makes movies. That is the simplest way to describe NINE (the musical based on the 1963 film 8 ½ by Federico Fellini) which follows the story of Guido Contini an Italian director who tries desperately to overcome his recent failings as a filmmaker. Overwhelmed by his desire to have it all, Guido finds himself tormented as well as inspired by the women in his life. Raised in the staunch Catholic way, Guido is well acquainted in the concept of morality, but can't seem to keep himself from straying from the women who love him. (more...)

Tony Manero--of Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group's (ATEG) 2015 Asian touring production of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER (SNF), which is based on John Badham's '70s landmark film of the same name--would have succumbed to the evil oblivion of his own fever had it not been for one simple--yet pivotal--plot deviation. The inevitable loss that awaited him is not alien but one all too familiar to all those coming of age--and it is through recognizing this evil that he realizes, it is better not to struggle against it but to just flow with it. BWW Interviews: Staging MUSIC MAN for a Contemporary AudienceBWW Interviews: Staging MUSIC MAN for a Contemporary Audience
by Carla Maria Verdino-Süllwold - Jul 24, 2015

'I try to do every play I direct keeping in mind both people who have never seen it before and those who might know it well. I ask myself, 'What would today's audience want to hear and how can I tell the story for this a contemporary public?' I actively look for ways to put a spin on even a well-known show like the Music Man so that some things strike the audience as surprises, as fresh and different. I want them not to sing along with tunes they know, but be caught off guard a little and be so busy watching the story unfold that they forget they already know it.' Director/choreographer Marc Robin is discussing his latest staging of Meredith Willson's classic musical, the Music Man, for Maine State Music Theatre. Robin was part of a panel that also included the shows stars, Curt Dale Clark and Lauren Blackman, MSMT's Props Designer Kyle Melton, and the company Director of Communications Carol Marquis, moderated by BWW's Carla Maria Verdino-Sullwold, the fourth such talkback in the company's summer series, Peek Behind the Curtain, which drew a standing-room only crowd.
