On Monday, May 18 at 8:00 PM, Martinis Above Fourth Table + Stage in San Diego is presenting TV and movie star Erich Bergen in Erich Bergen - Live! Best known for his performance as Bob Gaudio in the Clint Eastwood film of Jersey Boys (reprising the role he played on stage for over three years) and his costarring role as Blake Moran on the CBS nighttime drama Madam Secretary (recently renewed for its second season after consistently being in the Top 10 since its debut in September 2014), Erich Bergen will bring his dry wit and smooth vocals to the Martinis Above Fourth main stage with musical director Michael Orland (American Idol). The show will feature songs from Bergen's stage and screen career and songs from his two EP releases - his self-titled debut and the recent Never Give Up. The singer and actor will appear at Martinis Above Fourth for one show only on Monday, May 18 at 8:00 PM. In addition to the San Diego appearance, Chris Isaacson Presents is presenting Bergen's show at Catalina Jazz Club in Los Angeles on May 21 and 22. (more...)

More than 650 young vocal artists will convene in the East Bay for the tenth triennial Golden Gate International Children's and Youth Choral Festival July 13-18 presented by Piedmont East Bay Children's Choir, Artistic Director Robert Geary announced today. The young singers--who represent 21 choirs from eight countries on four continents—will come together to perform, compete and sing during a week of public concerts and workshops throughout the Bay Area culminating in the highly anticipated presentation of the 650 voice combined mega-chorus. The Festival opens with a Parade of Flags and Concert the evening of July 13 featuring all 21 choruses performing individually giving audiences a taste of the virtuosity and versatility to come during the week. The week features daily free public concerts and competitions, a special concert featuring the world-renowned Estonian Television Girls Choir, a new work, Pandora's Gift, by American composer Mark Winges and staged by choreographer Erika Chong Shuch, and culminates in a Grand Awards Concert featuring the winners of the competitions and all 21 choruses combined to perform collaborative repertoire learned during the Festival week. This year's Honorary Festival Chair is Vance George, Grammy and Emmy Award-winning former director of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus. WALNUT CREEK, CA (April 21, 2015) – The California Symphony, entering its third season with Music Director Donato Cabrera, is expanding its regional profile in Northern California, performing concerts in three new venues beginning in June. The orchestra, based in Walnut Creek, will perform three concerts in summer 2015 and eight concerts during its 2015-16 season, including at its home at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek as well as at Oakland's Kaiser Center Rooftop Garden, the Napa Valley Performing Arts Center's Lincoln Theater in Yountville, and at the Concord Pavilion in Concord. The orchestra is focused on American repertoire, nurturing new American composers as part of its Young American Composer in Residence program, and bringing music to people in new and unconventional settings as well as performing the most revered core classical repertoire. In May 2016, the orchestra and guitarist Jason Vieaux perform the world premiere of the new concerto commission by Dan Visconti, current Young American Composer in Residence, in concert in Walnut Creek and Yountville. Other season highlights include an American Roots program with pianist Charlie Albright performing Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, a showcase of two California Symphony principal musicians in a little-heard R. Strauss double concerto, a rooftop outdoor performance with Postmodern Jukebox, performances of Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 and Brahms' Symphony No. 2, the orchestra's first performance accompanying the live classic film The Wizard of Oz, and holiday music with Pacific Boychoir. Set to Shostakovich's galvanic score, Alexei Ratmansky's crowd-pleasing Concerto DSCH, an “endlessly suspenseful construction [with] passages of breathtaking dance brilliance” (New York Times) dazzles the eyes and ears with its playful, propulsive energy and glimpses of storytelling. In Kent Stowell's primal Carmina Burana, a grand-scale synthesis of dance, chorus, and orchestra, the famous cantata's poems materialize as the entire Company unites song and score for a jubilant communal experience under Carmina scenic designer Ming Cho Lee's colossal golden wheel.
