Lantern Theater Company Presents the Philadelphia Premiere of Obie and Lucille Lortel Award-Winning AN ILIAD

Lantern Theater Company continues its 2016/17 season with the Philadelphia premiere of An Iliad, written by Lisa Peterson and Tony Award-winning actor Denis O'Hare and based on Robert Fagles' acclaimed translation of Homer's Iliad. M. Craig Getting directs a cast that includes Barrymore Award-winners Peter DeLaurier and Liz Filios; Filios also serves as co-composer, working with sound designer Michael Hahn to create the evocative original music that scores the production. Porchlight Music Theatre and Artistic Director Michael Weber are proud to announce the 2016 - 2017 season of Chicago's hit musical revue series, New Faces Sing returning to Uptown Underground, 4707 N. Broadway and debuting at Skokie Theatre, 7924 Lincoln Ave in Skokie. In tribute to the original New Faces series that ran on Broadway and on film from 1934 - 1968, Porchlight Music Theatre last year created this Chicago musical revue series, New Faces Sing Broadway, as a showcase for the best emerging musical talent now performing on Chicago stages. Each edition is a journey from the start to the finish of a entire musical season on Broadway, peppered with photos and films of the era in an exciting multimedia presentation with a favorite Chicago theatre veteran hosting and introducing the next generation of music theatre artists and acting as your guide through a past season on the Great White Way. PLENTY, Starring Rachel Weisz, Extends Again at The Public

The Public Theater has announced a final extension today for the first major New York revival of PLENTY, written by David Hare. Directed by five-time Tony Award nominee David Leveaux, the show began performances on Tuesday, November 4 and was originally extended through Sunday, November 20. It was a dark and stormy night. Two couples are caught in a snowstorm on their way back from a party. Three of them arrive at a remote Connecticut farmhouse. One disappears. There's a definite pleasure in this familiar story, immaculately told in David Hare's adaptation of Georges Simenon's novel La Main. The noir thriller tropes are all in place, from femme fatales and gnawing jealousy to paranoia about what lies beneath. (more...)

Berkeley Repertory Theatre today announced the world premiere production of The Last Tiger in Haiti by playwright Jeff Augustin and directed by Joshua Kahan Brody. Twelve talented millennial actors, writers, producers, and directors have been selected from a pool of nearly 50 applicants to take part in the Jewish Women's Theatre's (JWT) NEXT @ The Braid Arts Council, a new initiative made possible by a $150,000 Cutting Edge Grant from the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles (The Foundation), with $15,000 in additional funding recently awarded by the Erwin Rautenberg Foundation, which consults with The Foundation on its grantmaking. In a lavish production where Chris March's luscious costumes touch the senses, Skylight Music Theater stages the 1983 Broadway musical La Cage Aux Folles. Scenic Designer Liliana Duque Piñeiro complements March's fabulous costumes by hanging a serpentine curtain of reflective silver strips across the stage that sparkles when Lighting Designer Noele Stollmack illuminates the fluid curtain with a rainbow of colors throughout the production Originally written by Harvey Fierstein with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, this musical based on a French play by Jean Poirot, won multiple awards in its production year and also in several later revivals.  (more...)

Morgan James, Richard Amelius and Torya Beard present Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR in concert, featuring Broadway veterans and powerhouse vocalists, Morgan James (Motown: The Musical, Godspell, The Addams Family) and Shoshana Bean (Hairspray, Wicked) and Big Beat Records recording artist Alex Newell (Glee). The one- night-only female-centered concert of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's rock opera will be directed by Richard Amelius (Time Between Us, Empty City), with musical direction by Julie McBride (Amazing Grace, Finding Neverland).
