As previously reported, Maiden High School in Maiden, North Carolina, recently canceled its upcoming production of ALMOST, MAINE due to controversial content, specifically, a single scene, 'titled The Fell,' in which two male characters realize their feelings for one another. The Maiden High School principal made the decision to cancel the Romantic Comedy soon after rehearsals began, after receiving complaints from both parents and churches in the area, despite permission slips being signed. Now, Maiden's ALMOST, MAINE has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund that effort. It has already met (and surpassed) its $1,000 goal, with 41 backers, $1,363 donated, and 13 days to go. Portland Shakespeare Project (PSP) announces Lisa Harrow will direct the summer mainstage production of Twelfth Night, along with an expanded 2015 season. The company's fifth season will include three additional shows in 2015. On March 9, PSP will hold a fundraising performance featuring Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Robin Nordli's one-person show Virgins to Villains. In repertory with Twelfth Night, a yet-to-be announced staged reading will accompany the mainstage summer production. In October, PSP will present Jeffrey Hatcher's adaptation of Henry James's The Turn of the Screw, October 15 through November 1.Tickets for all four shows will go on sale January 5, 2015. (more...)

Often called the "greatest American musical," Frank Loesser and Abe Burrows' Guys and Dolls is undoubtedly a classic. Columbia Children's Theatre will present this YouTheatre production Nov. 14-16 with shows Friday at 7:00 pm, Saturday at 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm and Sunday at 3:00 pm. General admission tickets are $10 regular admission and $8 for active military and seniors with proper ID.
