BWW Review: Keegan Theatre Presents Masterful PARADE, A Must See Production
by Jeffrey Walker - Mar 18, 2017

Co-directed with precision by Christina A. Coakley and Susan Marie Rhea, Keegan's Parade keeps the staging simple and imaginative, cutting away clutter and using only the barest of props and scenic elements to help the story unfold. No one who has seen previous Keegan musicals, such as HAIR, CABARET, or AMERICAN IDIOT could be surprised by the quality of this rendering of Parade; I fully expect this production to be recognized multiple times when the next round of Helen Hayes Awards comes around. Like the Criminologist in ROCKY HORROR, Erin Markey is here to take you on a strange journey. Well, technically, said journey has been going on since 2013. BWW Review: The Barn's Southern-fried and bred SEEING STARS IN DIXIE
by Jeffrey Ellis - Mar 17, 2017

Featuring a quintet of charming and engaging players, under the deft and focused direction of Everett Tarlton, Seeing Stars in Dixie (which winds up a month-long run at The Barn this coming Sunday, March 19) is the kind of laugh-out-loud funny that only comes from the heart, as it relates the story of a group of people in Natchez, Mississippi, circa 1956, who are caught up in all the hoopla and hullabaloo of a movie, starring Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift, being made right over yonder. It's based in fact: Taylor, Clift, Lee Marvin, Eva Marie Saint and all the accompanying Hollywood types came to Natchez to film Raintree County, a Southern gothic tale that transformed the sleepy, small town into a veritable beehive of Tinsel Town talk and celebrity hijinks. (more...)

BWW Review: STEPPING OUT, Vaudeville Theatre
by Marianka Swain - Mar 14, 2017

Never mind stepping out - the real wonder of this production is Anna-Jane Casey stepping in for the injured Tamzin Outhwaite at short notice. It's a plot twist worthy of the backstage shenanigans in Richard Harris's genial 1984 play about the members of a weekly tap class, and Casey's superb turn - and smooth integration into the ensemble - equally in keeping with its triumphant community spirit.
