Today, May 9 through May 11, 2014, the University of Chicago and the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts will host Let's Get Working, a three-day festival honoring the life and work of Studs Terkel, Chicago legend and UChicago alumnus. The festival will introduce Terkel's legacy to new and younger audiences while highlighting individuals and groups, both local and national, who have been impacted, influenced, and inspired by his work as a broadcaster, historian, actor, and Pulitzer Prize-winning author. Duncan Sheik Announces Northeast Tour Dates, 6/12-27

Grammy and Tony award winning musician Duncan Sheik has confirmed a select number of East Coast tour dates. He will be performing from his extensive catalogue including songs from his back catalogue as well as this latest theatre works, Spring Awakening and American Psycho. In 2013-2014 Sheik spent time at Sneaky Studios in Garrison, NY recording his first album of orginal material (not related to a theatre production) since 2006's White Limousine. Constellation's spell-binding production of Timberlake Wertenbaker's The Love of the Nightingale may have an old-fashioned name or two, but it is as timely a production as you will ever see. Director Allison Arkell Stockman understands that Greek mythology, like tragedy itself, is a canvas upon which we paint our darkest fears and ponder their meaning. The play paints a complex picture in which victims, bystanders and perpetrators compete for the audience's sympathy; and with Constellation's consistently strong performances, the journey is one of the most thought- provoking I have seen this season. A Woman on Top , the new musical for both sides of the aisle inspired by the current political climate, will have a special industry reading next month. The reading will star Karen Mason -- Drama Desk-nominated Broadway star of Wonderland, Mamma Mia and Sunset Boulevard, as well as a prolific concert and recording artist -- and be directed by Dan Knechtges (Lysistrata Jones, Tony Award nominee for Xanadu choreography). The show has music by Rhonda Kess, and lyrics by Rhonda Kess and Dale Kiken and a book by Dale Kiken. The reading will take place on Wednesday, July 9 at 3:00 PM and Thursday, July 10 at 2:00 PM at The New 42nd Street Studios (229 West 42nd Street). Carson Kressley dropped by the show late last week just in time to say good bye to the comedy's original cast members and to welcome new cast members Grant MacDermott, Rachel Moulton, and BJ Gruber (who begin on Thursday, May 1). American tenor Paul Appleby closes his 2013 -2014 with a strong finish. His latest recording is today's (April 28, 2014) Delos release of the world premiere recording of Dear Theo, a CD of three song cycles by celebrated American composer Ben Moore. In early May, he makes his company debut with the Washington National Opera singing the role of Tamino under the baton of conductor Philippe Augin in the company's spring production of Mozart's The Magic Flute.
