Michael Ball makes his West End debut as a producer after falling in love with the enchanting new British musical, Love Story.

Now following a critically acclaimed sell-out season at the Chichester Festival Theatre, Love Story transfers to the West End for a limited season from 27 November 2010 Ė 26 February 2011.

Inspired by Erich Segalís best-selling iconic novel and one of the most romantic films of all time, this life-affirming musical is scored by the Emmy and BAFTA award winning composer Howard Goodall with lyrics by Stephen Clark.

Oliver Barrett IV went to Harvard and Jenny Cavilleri to Radcliffe. He was rich, she was poor. He was sporty, she played music. But they fell in love. This is their story. A celebration of love and life, Love Story will win your heart. And it might just break it.

BWW Review: WHITE CHRISTMAS at The Noel S. Ruiz Theatre
by Anthony Hazzard - Nov 30, 2016

The holidays came early this year to the Noel S. Ruiz Theatre in Oakdale as they present the blissful Irving Berlin tuner 'White Christmas' through December 18. This cheerful old fashioned Broadway musical is based on the classic Paramount motion picture starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye as song and dance men searching for stardom while looking for love on the way. Misunderstandings, mayhem, and mountains of mistletoe all ensure an endearing Love Story and the happiest holiday for all. (more...)

BWW Review: Love PRELUDE TO A KISS at 2nd Story Theatre
by Larry O'Brien - Nov 25, 2016

With PRELUDE TO A KISS, the current offering at 2nd Story Theatre in Warren, RI, playwright Craig Lucas came up with a realistically magical take on the Hollywood formula, boy-meets-girl, boy-loses-girl, boy-gets-girl back. Apparently this theme predates even Hollywood: on the way home from the theater I listened to Monteverdi's seventeenth century opera, L'Orfeo, based on the even older story of Orpheus, in which boy-meets-girl, boy-loses-girl, but oops. In this PRELUDE TO A KISS, which 2nd Story bills as a modern day fairy tale, elderly 'wedding crasher' (F. William Oakes) kisses the bride, Rita, (Lara Hakeem) and their souls exchange, which turns a perfect wedding into a white-knuckled flight of doubt and regret. All this leaves the brave but bewildered groom, Peter, (David Sackel) to reverse the curse armed only with the power of love and, eventually, the assistance of the persona-switched bride and crasher. Got all that? (more...)

BWW Review: BWW Award Winner EMRHYS COOPER First Western Actor to Star in Buhtanese Film KUSHUTHARA
by Don Grigware - Dec 6, 2016

Karma Deki's Bhutanese film Kushuthara Pattern of Love has won tremendous praise throughout Asia and is currently preparing its American release. It has done very well on the international film festival circuit picking up many awards.  The film is stunning on many levels. First, it is a fascinating romance that develops between an American journalist/ photographer Charlie (Emrhys Cooper) and native weaver Chokimo (Kezang Wangmo). Set in the village of Kurtoe-Menjey in the Kingdom of Bhutan, the plot has Chokimo already in love with villager Bumpala. When Charlie and Chokimo meet for the first time, they experience a kind of deja vu. Their attraction goes very, very deep. It is an example of what the natives believe to be Karmic reincarnation. Charlie and Chokimo were somehow connected in many past lives. (more...)

BWW Review: ONCE Was Enough at PPAC
by Andria Tieman - Dec 5, 2016

ONCE, the award-winning stage musical based on the award-winning film of the same name, is an obvious addition to Broadway.  Featuring songs written by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, who also starred in the film, this production seems like it can't miss.  Unfortunately, despite excellent music and vocal and musical performances from an obviously talented cast, this production's book, by Irish playwright Enda Walsh,  seems to assume that the only people who would be interested in this show are those who have seen the movie.  Therefore, there is next-to-no character development, and random scenes inserted that make no sense to anyone not intimately familiar with the source material.  Since this is a show about music and musicians, one would think that story goes out the window then in favor of reworking this as almost a musical revue, rather than a traditional narrative.  That would have worked, since the story is a sweetly simple one and doesn't require much, but the choice was made instead to shoehorn in extra scenes of dialogue, most of which take far longer and meader far more than necessary to advance the plot, and wind up creating something that is just dull and lazy. BWW Recap:WESTWORLD Proves that Violent Delights Truly Have Violent Ends in its Mindblowing Finale
by Jessica Naftaly - Dec 5, 2016

The final episode of the premiere season of Westworld, ¬ďThe Bicameral Mind,¬Ē was bittersweet, sentimental, violent, satisfying, and only benefits from a repeat viewing or two. With everything riding on the finale and the show's massively built up audience praying for a finale that would live up tot he rest of the season's carefully and deftly crafted episodes, WESTWORLD didn't disappoint. Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan proved that they had hit on something truly special and are focused on a narrative deeper and more thoughtful than the majority of shows currently and previously reaching the top of the ratings. WESTWORLD's finale only cemented the show's narrative theme of autonomy, storytelling and subverting the traditional tropes of stories, as well as it's ultimate deconstruction of archetypes through our ultimate lenses; Maeve and Dolores.¬† (more...)
