Jo-Ann Ragosta, Chairperson of the ARTS Scholarships 2017 program, along with the members of the Community Outreach Committee of the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC), are pleased to announce the winners of the ARTS Scholarships 2017 program, sponsored by the Textron Charitable Trust and PPAC Annual Fund Donors.  This year's program will award scholarships to 36 talented Rhode Island students, ages 11 - 14, each of whom will receive a scholarship of up to $500 to attend a local summer arts education program of their choice (please see below for the list of ARTS Scholarships 2017 winners). The awards show is the culmination of a year-long professional development program, and will showcase the next generation of Georgia's musical theatre talent. Presented by the Georgia Lottery, the awards show will air on Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) over its nine-station statewide television network live from Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on April 20, 2017 from 7-9 pm. Beloved Bay Area storyteller Brenda Wong Aoki, and Emmy Award Winning Composer Mark Izu, will present Aunt Lily's Flower Book: One Hundred Years of Legalized Racism, as part of the 2017 San Francisco International Arts Festival.  Memoirs from a family diary tell the true stories of the struggles and resilience of a Japanese American family in the 1940's. Aoki and Izu present Aunt Lily's Flower Book to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Executive Order 9066, which authorized the removal and internment of Japanese Americans in the United States during World War II.Aunt Lily's Flower Book takes place on Saturday, May 27 at 8:30pm, Sunday, May 28 at 2pm, and Saturday, June 3 at 7pm at the South Side Theater, Fort Mason (2 Marina Blvd, San Francisco, CA 94123). The Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry at the University of Connecticut will present its first-ever Banners and Cranks Mini-Festival on April 14 and 15, 2017 in conjunction with its current exhibit Banners and Cranks: Paintings and Scrolls in Performance. The Banners and Cranks Mini-Festival will present cranky and cantastoria performances created by puppeteers, musicians, and artists from throughout the Northeast, with productions geared for adult audiences on Friday, April 14 at 7 p.m. and family-friendly shows on Saturday, April 15 at 2 p.m. All events will take place at the Ballard Institute, located at 1 Royce Circle in Storrs Center.
