Great Lakes Theater (GLT) will commence its 2013-14 season at the Hanna Theatre, PlayhouseSquare, with a Fall Repertory that features William Shakespeare's royal epic, Richard III and Stephen Sondheim's Tony Award-winning musical thriller, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The productions will be performed in rotating repertory September 27 - November 3, 2013. Joseph Hanreddy will direct Richard III.Victoria Bussert will direct Sweeney Todd. (Sweeney Todd's music and lyrics were written by Stephen Sondheim based on a book by Hugh Wheeler and an adaptation by Christopher Bond.Sweeney Todd was originally directed on Broadway by Harold Prince with orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick. It was originally produced on Broadway by Richard Barr, Charles Woodward, Robert Fryer, Mary Lea Johnson, Martin Richards in association with Dean and Judy Manos.) (more...)

Jeannine, Managing Director of The New American Theatre, is producing OTHELLO together with Ron Sossi, Artistic Director of the Odyssey Theatre, with Jack starring as the villainous Iago. With his strong physical presence and background as part Mexican and part Native American, A Martinez is playing Othello, the Moor. Mason, who is currently directing the Playhouse production of Neil Simon's Chapter Two that begins performances tonight, will play the role of the mysterious Helga Ten Dorp. The play is a hopeful fable to invoke at a time when the world seems so irrevocably torn, with our own country so polarized and the Middle East ripping itself apart in hopeless religious conflicts. Following the amazing discovery of the remains of King Richard III, Folger Shakespeare Library will present a special lecture featuring geneticist Turi King and fieldwork director Mathew Morris, both part of the Greyfriars Project that discovered Richard's body. King and Morris will shed light on the archaeological dig and subsequent verification by DNA research on Wednesday, February 5 at 7:30pm. Buried for centuries, Richard's body was discovered in September 2012 beneath a parking lot in Leicester, England. (more...)

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Toronto experimental theatre company Kadozuke Kollektif, in partnership with Bad New Days, presents the world premiere of Richard III, The Pleasures of Violence, Artistic Director Tatiana Jennings' provocative and innovative multimedia reimagining of the William Shakespeare classic. Richard III previews September 9, opens Wednesday September 10 and runs through to September 28 at Zuke Studios, the company's storefront home in the Junction. (more...)
