Zimmerli Art Museum to Display 'Early Adopters: The Social Media Prototypes of Daumier and Warhol'Zimmerli Art Museum to Display 'Early Adopters: The Social Media Prototypes of Daumier and Warhol'
by BWW News Desk - Feb 11, 2016

Artists have always examined the intricacies of human nature – whether in their work or through the reactions of the viewer. Two new exhibitions at the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers demonstrate how artists worKing nearly 150 years apart applied their understanding of the public's fallibility to create iconic images. Honoré Daumier and the Art of La Caricature and More than Fifteen Minutes of Fame: Warhol's Prints and Photographs, both drawn from the museum's extensive print collection and on view through July 31, demonstrate how these artists took advantage of the new technologies of their eras to disseminate their work to a broad public, influencing the views and tastes of their contemporaries. Daumier and Warhol also established legacies that remain relevant in today's visual political commentary and pop culture, particularly as seen in the endless supply of – and demand for – ideas and images in today's social media. BWW Review: Trinity Rep's Uproarious THE HUNCHBACK OF SEVILLEBWW Review: Trinity Rep's Uproarious THE HUNCHBACK OF SEVILLE
by Andria Tieman - Feb 11, 2016

T.S. Eliot insists that April is the cruelest month, but I've always firmly believed that the correct answer is February. Between the unpredictable weather events and the cold; the sloppy sidewalks and the general malaise of realizing that spring is a long way off--February needs to have a few bright spots in order for us to power through. Thankfully, this year, we have Trinity Rep's THE HUNCHBACK OF SEVILLE to serve as one of those beacons. Though the story takes place on a cold day in 1504 Seville, it feels like a ray of sunshine-- perfect to thaw out your sense of humor and warm up your funny bone. (more...)

by Brodie Paparella - Feb 11, 2016

Tooth and Sinew theatre company have once again shown their penchant for controversy and passion in their latest offering, an abstraction of renowned Scottish playwright Anthony Neilson's Year of the Family. When an audience member steps into the domestic environment of strangers, they always know they're in for an experience to push boundaries and transport into real introspection, which Ash Bell has pushed even further in her stage design. Ultimately, what audiences can expect is a humourously voyeuristic piece they can comfortably walk away from feeling better about their own trauma. (more...)

The extraordinary journey of the Broadway revival of PIPPIN began at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge a few years back, and now that triumphant Tony Award-winning musical, directed by Diane Paulus, is back in Boston via the national tour. While some tweaks have since been made to the production that had its Broadway tryout at the A.R.T., the show's exuberant joie de vivre and circus-inspired excitement are still intact.
