Tenri Cultural Institute presents the world premiere of Emily Bront Through Life and Death, A Chainless Soul, a poetic mono-opera in one act based on selected poems of Emily Bront by composer Akemi Naito on Friday, January 5th and Saturday, January 6th at 8pm. Honoring the 200th Anniversary of the birth of Emily Bront in 2018, this mono-opera is a collaborative work with mezzo-soprano Jessica Bowers, pianist Marilyn Nonken, actor Robert Ian Mackenzie, and visual artist Toshihiro Sakuma, whose Healing exhibition will be on view.

Out of a sense of homegrown spirit and pride, Nickel City Opera enlisted the 27 time ASCAP award winning composer, Persis Vehar to set a libretto to music based on the assassination of President William McKinley at the 1901 Pan American Exposition by Polish-American dissident and self proclaimed anarchist Leon Czolgosz. Commissioned by Dr. Judith Wolf and written by librettist Gabrielle Vehar, 'SHOT!' dramatizes the events before, during and after President McKinley's death providing the flavor of Buffalo in 1901 including actual songs that were written about the Pan American Exposition and its' relationship to Buffalo.

BWW Review: Winter Opera's IL TROVATORE Goes In High Melodrama

High passion and sheer unrestrained melodrama overflow in Verdi's 'Il Trovatore,' the current offering by Winter Opera St. Louis. And the voices are glorious! Once again Winter Opera has assembled a sterling group of singers. Caruso once said that all it takes for a successful performance of 'Trovatore' is the four greatest singers in the world. I'm not sure if the judges' ballots are all in yet, but the singers of the four principal roles in this production would seem to be right up there among the finalists.
