The 12th annual performances of Too Hot to Handel: The Jazz-Gospel Messiah take place at the Auditorium Theatre on January 14 and 15, the weekend before Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Renowned soloists Rodrick Dixon, Alfreda Burke, and Karen Marie Richardson join legendary pianist Alvin Waddles in the celebratory production, which features a choir of over 100 choir members and musicians. Too Hot to Handel is based on George Frideric Handel's Messiah, and pairs Handel's traditional classical score with jazz, gospel, and blues. (more...)

Kicking off the season is Broadway's Gavin Creel, Olivier Award Winning star "The Book of Mormon and star of "She Loves Me" performing on December 30 at 8:00 PM, immediately prior to his return to Broadway where he will co-star with Bette Midler in "Hello Dolly!." The first was the 1988 original film, the second was the 2002 Broadway musical, the third was its 2007 film adaptation, and now the 2016 live television production on NBC. Hairspray takes place in Baltimore, Maryland in the year 1962, where we meet a plump teenage girl named Tracy Turnblad, whose lifelong dream is to dance on the local TV dance program known as The Crony Collins Show. When Tracy wins a role on the show and becomes an overnight sensation, she luanches a campaign to intergrate the show.
