Luther Burbank Center for the Arts Adds Trio of Shows to 2016 Schedule

Today, Luther Burbank Center for the Arts (The Center) announced the addition of three new performances to its 2016 lineup. On Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 8 p.m., the famed British pop group Culture Club will make its Sonoma County debut. On Friday, October 21, 2016 at 8 p.m., Paula Poundstone, one of the country's foremost humorists, will also make her debut at the The Center for a special evening of comedy. On Sunday, November 27, 2016 at 3 p.m., the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus returns to The Center with their special festive holiday show, Home for the Holidays! Tickets for Culture Club range in price from $79-$149. Tickets for Paula Poundstone range in price from $29-$39. Tickets for the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus range from $19-$50. Sundance Institute to Launch New 'FilmTwo' Initiative

Sundance Institute today announced a significant expansion of its signature artist development programs to include targeted support for second-time feature filmmakers, addressing a growing need in the field of independent storytelling, especially for women and filmmakers of color. The new FilmTwo Initiative, led by the Institute's renowned Feature Film Program, with generous support from Founding Partner NBCUniversal, will offer selected directors specialized creative and tactical guidance in navigating the unique challenges of making their second feature films. The Initiative's inaugural Fellows announced today participated in a Screenwriters Intensive in March and continue to receive customized creative and tactical support and participate in select FFP activities. Founder and Artistic Director of The Black Iris Project, Jeremy McQueen is an award-winning emerging choreographer. A 2013 recipient of the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago's Choreographers of Color Award and two-time finalist of the Capezio Award for Choreographic Excellence, McQueen's work has appeared at Jacob's Pillow Dance's Inside/Out series (in 2012 & 2013), Dancers Responding to AIDS' Fire Island Dance Festival, the Young Choreographer's Festival, and more. McQueen has appeared in the Broadway National Tours of 'Wicked' and 'The Color Purple', in addition to the Metropolitan Opera's productions of 'Die Fledermaus', 'Aida', 'Les Contes d'Hoffmann', and 'Don Giovanni'. McQueen currently teaches ballet for ABT's and Ailey's educational outreach programs. A graduate of The Ailey School/Fordham University B.F.A Program, he's trained as a scholarship recipient with American Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, and Alonzo King's LINES Ballet. (more...)
