Vladimir Jurowski to Conduct Met Opera's Revival of Strauss's DIE FRAU OHNE SCHATTEN, Begin. 11/7

Vladimir Jurowski leads a rare revival of Richard Strauss's epic Die Frau ohne Schatten beginning November 7, in the acclaimed staging by the late Herbert Wernicke that had its Met premiere in 2001. Anne Schwanewilms, one of the world's leading Strauss sopranos, makes her Met debut as the Empress. Christine Goerke, a graduate of the Met's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program who has recently emerged as a prominent international dramatic soprano, returns to the company after an absence of several seasons to sing the role of the Dyer's Wife. The cast also includes Torsten Kerl as the Emperor, Johan Reuter as Barak, and Ildikó Komlósi as the Nurse. On November 16, American soprano Meagan Miller will make her Met debut as the Empress. The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Jacques Lacombe present Verdi's mammoth Requiem April 3-6 in Newark, New Brunswick and Morristown with soprano Marianne Fiset, mezzo-soprano Janara Kellerman, tenor Russell Thomas, bass Peter Volpe and the Montclair State University Chorale. Thomas returns to NJSO stages after his performance of Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde with the Orchestra in January. This April, Lorin Maazel conducts the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra in two concerts of works by Richard Strauss at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. On Friday, April 11 at 8:00 p.m., the orchestra performs Also sprach Zarathustra, Op. 30, and Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche, Op. 28, and is joined by pianist Emanuel Ax for Burleske. The following evening, Saturday, April 12 at 8:00 p.m., soprano Karita Mattila sings the composer's Four Last Songs. Also on the program is Ein Heldenleben, Op. 40, and the Der Rosenkavalier Suite. French harpsichordist Olivier Baumont, professor at the Paris Conservatoire, is featured in a solo suite, joins violinist and artistic director Ryan Brown and viola da gambist Kenneth Slowik in one of the composer's Pièces de clavecin en concert, and performs transcriptions from Les Indes Galantes with harpsichordist Andrew Appel. On Today, April 11 at 8:00 p.m., the orchestra performs Also sprach Zarathustra, Op. 30, and Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche, Op. 28, and is joined by pianist Emanuel Ax for Burleske. The following evening, Saturday, April 12 at 8:00 p.m., soprano Karita Mattila sings the composer's Four Last Songs. Also on the program is Ein Heldenleben, Op. 40, and the Der Rosenkavalier Suite.
