Greenway Arts Alliance Presents George Orwell's 1984

"War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery and Ignorance is Strength."  Greenway Arts Alliance Presents: George Orwell's 1984, directed by Kate Jopson as the first production of their novel to stage program Greenway Reads. 300 Fairfax High School students are reading the novel and will attend matinee's of the theatrical production. The adaptation by Alan Lyddiard creates an interactive and engaging experience for audience members. Jopson said, "We're trying to create an immersive experience. The elements of the play and its themes are all around us in the real world. We try to emphasize that and as soon as you arrive at the theater there's not anywhere you're not in the set of 1984, even in the lobby and bathrooms."   (more...)

Producer Stuart Thompson announced today that John Guare's critically acclaimed play Six Degrees of Separation will return to Broadway this spring in a revival starring seven-time Emmy Award winner Allison Janney ('Mom,' The Girl on the Train) as Ouisa and Tony Award winner John Benjamin Hickey (The Normal Heart, 'Manhattan') as Flan. Trip Cullman (Significant Other, Punk Rock) will direct the production, which is set to open at the Barrymore Theatre in April 2017 and will run for 15 weeks only. (more...)

Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati (ETC) is moving beyond the walls of its intimate theatre to stage a special presentation of the Greek tragedy Antigone for three performances only on May 17, 18, and 19 at 8:00 pm. Translated and adapted by 2016-2017 ETC Acting Apprentice Griff Bludworth, and directed by Ben Raanan, ANTIGONE (born against.) is a modern retelling of the defiant heroine. Due to the renovations of ETC's stage now underway, performances of this contemporized Greek story will be held at Know Theatre of Cincinnati and will feature ETC's 2016-2017 Professional Acting Apprentice Company. CK Productions' latest, Tony nominee You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown is a really cute production. Based on the characters created by Charles M. Schulz in his iconic comic strip Peanuts, this fun musical, created by Clark Gesner, was actually originally done in 1967. This incarnation, however, is a replication of the 1999 revival. (more...)

Rehearsals began this week for the revival of John Guare's critically acclaimed play Six Degrees of Separation starring seven-time Emmy Award winner Allison Janney ('Mom,' The Girl on the Train) as Ouisa, Tony Award winner John Benjamin Hickey (The Normal Heart, 'Manhattan') as Flan and Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton, '24: Legacy') as Paul. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we were unable to raise ourselves up from the bed and make our way to our desk in order to start writing. After a particularly challenging weekend, we were a bit under the weather and, truth be told, exhausted. We offer our abject apologies and request your indulgences, although we were just as disappointed as we hope you were because we were unable to live life dramatically with any sense of style on Monday. EMH Productions Presents the Sacramento Premiere of SEX WITH STRANGERS

Award winning EMH Productions begins its sixth season of provocative and compelling theatre with the titillating Sex with Strangers by acclaimed writer Laura Eason.  A two-character modern day drama, this play made its debut at the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago and was directed by David Schwimmer (of the hit TV series Friends) when it debuted at Second Stage Theatre in New York.  Since then, it made its West Coast debut last summer at the Geffen Playhouse to sold out houses, and has been one of the top 10 most produced plays of 2015/2016.  This timely play delves into the world of social media,  treatment of women as sex objects, the dynamics of a relationship between a younger man and an older woman, along with testing our understanding of whether a public persona is who a person truly is behind closed doors.  Sex with Strangers will run from February 2nd through February 18th, 2017 at The Geery Theatre, 2130 L St, Sacramento, CA 95816 (more...)

All-Chicago Cast Set for 'Thrones! The Musical Parody' at Apollo Theater

"Thrones! The Musical Parody" sweeps through the Windy City once again this fall at Apollo Theater Chicago (2540 N Lincoln Ave) with a talented ensemble of Chicago up-and-comers bringing the "Game of Thrones" send-up to life. Under the direction of Hannah Todd, the cast of "Thrones! The Musical Parody" includes Caitlyn Cerza, Nick Druzbanski, Madeline Lauzon, Beau Nolen, Victoria Olivier and Christopher Ratliff. This all-Chicago cast combines comedic talents and "knockout vocal harmonies" (Chicago Reader) to bring all six seasons of the HBO hit to the stage, recounting the journey of well-known characters such as Tyrion Lannister, Jon Snow, Cersei Lannister, the Stark family, Daenerys Targaryen and more. Morris-Jumel Mansion Presents New Theatrical Adaptation of Alice in Wonderland

The Morris-Jumel Mansion will offer audiences the opportunity to experience Lewis Carroll's acclaimed children's story Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) like they never have before.
