The Classical Theatre Company's (CTC) is announcing that it will be moving all of its operations into the Chelsea Market theatre property (4617 Montrose Blvd. Houston, TX 77006), which until recently was home to one of Main Street Theater's two performance spaces. Formerly the home of Main Street Theater's Theater for Youth and educational programming, the theater property at Chelsea Market will allow CTC to consolidate all of its operations to one physical location. Because of daytime traffic issues, Main Street Theater was forced to move its Theater for Youth programming to Talento Bilingue de Houston, located at 333 S. Jensen Drive Houston, TX 77003, where its school buses can be better accommodated. (more...)

The all-star cast is led by Ken Clark (Titanic on Broadway, First National Tour of La Cage Aux Folles, Netflix's House of Cards) as "King Arthur," Christy Altomare (Mamma Mia! on Broadway and First National Tour of Spring Awakening) as "Guenevere," and Travis Taylor (Les Miserables and Young Frankenstein at Drury Lane Theatre) as "Lancelot." A Contemporary Theatre Board President Colin Chapman announces that Artistic Director Kurt Beattie will retire at the end of ACT's 2015 50th Anniversary Season and will be succeeded by John Langs, a nationally recognized theatre artist who has served as ACT's Associate Artistic Director since 2013. Beattie, ACT's Artistic Director since 2003, will assume the role of Artistic Director Emeritus upon his retirement, stewarding long-term projects already in development as well as acting and directing in upcoming seasons. BAFTA winning and Golden Globe nominated actor James McAvoy (Filth, The Last King of Scotland, Atonement, X-Men) returns to Trafalgar Transformed, following his performance in Jamie Lloyd's Macbeth, which launched the first Trafalgar Transformed season and earned him an Olivier award nomination for Best Actor, and for the production a nomination for Best Revival. McAvoy will play Jack, the 14th Earl of Gurney, in the first revival of Peter Barnes' satirical comedy, The Ruling Class, directed by Artistic Director, Jamie Lloyd. The production runs from 16 January to 11 April 2015, with press night on 27 January. Design is by Soutra Gilmour, with lighting by Jon Clark and sound by Ben and Max Ringham. (more...)

One of my son's favorite children's book series is "Fly Guy" by Tedd Arnold. So when we heard that Theatreworks, one of New York's preeminent family theatre companies, was presenting a musical version of "Fly Guy Meets Fly Girl", we knew we had to check it out! Our favorite, buzzing hero's tale was part of a new musical revue based on favorite children's books. The show kicked off a new weekend performance series at the Danny Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, and if "Fly Guy" was any indication, the rest of the series is sure to be a hit. (more...)

American tenor Jay Hunter Morris will replace Anthony Dean Griffey in Houston Grand Opera's world premiere production of A Christmas Carol, it was announced today by HGO Artistic and Music Director Patrick Summers. Mr. Griffey has withdrawn for health reasons. The 90-minute opera, commissioned by HGO from composer Iain Bell and librettist Simon Callow, is written for a single singer performing the role of The Narrator. A Christmas Carol runs from December 5 through 21, 2014, at the Wortham Theater Center, and is suitable for ages 12 and up. (more...)
