BWW Blog: Jennifer Weber - I Can Do That: A CHORUS LINE Review
by Guest Blogger: Jennifer Weber - Jul 27, 2016

5,6,7,8… Everyone start stretching and get out your headshots, A Chorus Line is a part of the summer season at the Hemmens and it couldn't be more exciting! While the audience begins to find their seats and chatter still fills the room, the show begins with the cast arriving to the audition. Some are stretching, chatting with friends, and of course taking selfies. In other musicals I would think, what is happening? But with A Chorus Line this production is all about the audition process and the little things matter. The design team had an easy time with this one compared to last summer's Rent production. The stage is set like it would appear any time of day with lights in the wings, chairs scattered off to the side, and four individual mirrors that three appear to be transparent (and make for some interesting dance numbers). Right on the heels of A Chorus Line's final performance last weekend, Grease continues a wonderful summer season at the Playhouse by bringing youthful energy and pizazz to a show that is on almost everyone's list of favorite musicals. BWW Review: Chance Theater High-Kicks Intimate Production of A CHORUS LINE
by Michael L. Quintos - Jul 16, 2016

If there was ever one musical that, on the surface, can translate well as an intimately-staged production in a black box theater space, then A Chorus Line---the classic 1975 Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning backstage musical---should certainly qualify as a strong contender. This still dazzling, groundbreaking show has been revived at Anaheim's Chance Theater, the lauded small regional theater company in Orange County, CA that has definitively, in the very recent past, shown a knack for taking large musicals and making them smaller, very special ones. For the most part, the same can certainly be said about their newest small-scaled local revival, which continues its extended run through August 7, 2016. Exceedingly admirable despite being a bit rough around the edges, Chance Theater's peppy production reminds audiences old and new why the world of musical theater continues to lure certain dreamy, insanely talented people to this sometimes frustrating, often euphoric, and always competitive profession time and time again. (more...)
