Starlight Theatre Announces 2017 Blue Star Awards

Yesterday, high school theatre students and instructors across metropolitan Kansas City and in neighboring communities received the good news that they had received nominations for the 15th Anniversary Blue Star Awards from Starlight Theatre. Starlight leaders, staff and board members personally delivered 132 nominations to 42 area high schools. On Thursday night, May 25, winners of the 2017 Blue Star Awards will receive their honors in a public ceremony on Starlight Theatre's Cohen Community Stage. (more...)

For the second year in a row, I had the great pleasure of attending the Triangle Rising Star Awards at the Durham Performing Arts Center. This regional competition brings together high school musical theater students from Central and Eastern North Carolina to perform and compete for the chance to represent the Triangle in The National High School Musical Theater Awards in New York City this summer on June 26th. BWW Review: THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE at Goodspeed Opera House

Everything today, is indeed thoroughly modern. From the cars we drive, to the mobile phones we are glued to, to the latest fashion, American society is all about following latest trends and embracing the fads of the day. This is something that has been the case for generation to generation, even the "roaring twenties", the setting for Goodspeed Muscials' season opener Thoroughly Modern Millie. Something else that hasn't changed that much in the last hundred years - the self-starting, determined spirit of young people pursuing their dreams. That too, is on display in living color on the Goodspeed stage through Millie and the quirky characters that inhabit her 1922 New York world. And, in this production, Goodspeed Musicals infuses this tale with energy, fresh vision, and most importantly, fun. (more...)
