BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that stage and screen actor Lawrence Clayton has died at age 64. The news was shared with BroadwayWorld by multiple friends and former castmates of Clayton's.

The iconic Tony Award winning star of the original Broadway cast of 'Dreamgirls,' who recently made headlines with a soulful performance at the funeral service for Congressman John Lewis, will celebrate a milestone birthday next month with an intimate online concert.

2019 has come and gone, and we are reflecting on those we have lost in the Broadway and theatre communities throughout the year.

Skylight Music Theatre today announced the cast and creative team for The Gospel at Colonus running January 17-26, 2020 in the Cabot Theatre at the Broadway Theatre Center, 158 N. Broadway, in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward.

Actress/Producer Tal Fox is about to open in the rarely produced In Trousers at The Lounge. In our conversation she tells us about this and her other theatrical chestnuts. Billy Porter recently made history as the first openly gay black man to win the Emmy for Leading Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Pray Tell on FX's Pose. Porter opens up to Variety about how he owes his Emmy to Janet Mock, a writer, director, and producer on the show.

In its 24th season, the Crest Theatre at Old School Square announces the 2020 Broadway Cabaret Series. Presented in association with Mark Keller, the Broadway Cabaret series features Broadway's brightest stars, accompanied by legendary musical directors on Monday and Tuesday evenings! Premium and VIP ticketholders are welcomed to join a post-show reception with the performers in the Ocean Breeze room. This series is currently open for subscriptions through July 31st to guarantee a seat to the hottest series of the Crest Theatre season.

According to the New York Times, actress Rosemary Harris, musician Harold Wheeler and playwright Terrence McNally will all be honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards at the 2019 Tonys.

Adapted for family audiences from the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, BIG RIVER: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn tells the story of Huck and his friend Jim, a slave, as they travel along the mighty Mississippi River. Huck tries to help Jim escape to freedom and reunite with his family.

Greenway Arts Alliance (Whitney Weston and Pierson Blaetz, Co-Founders and Co-Artistic Directors) announced the cast and creative team for the THE COLOR PURPLE, which will play at the Greenway Court Theatre (544 N. Fairfax Avenue, Los Angeles). Performances run from November 9 through December 9 with the official press opening on Saturday, November 10. The Tony Award-winning musical features a book by Marsha Norman and music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray. Directing and choreographing the cast of 15 is NAACP Theater Award-winner Jeffrey Polk (Smokey Joe's Cafe).

Redhouse will kick off its season with Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling, which runs from September 20-30, 2018 at its theater complex at City Center.
