Mercer County Community College's (MCCC) Kelsey Theatre is rolling out the classics for the 2014-15 season. Long-time theater lovers can revisit their favorite musicals and dramas, while younger audiences will have an opportunity to see the greats for the very first time. Twenty full-length dramas and musical productions come to the Kelsey stage, along with eight shows offered through the Kelsey Kids Series performed by traveling professional troupes and local companies. "Kiss Me, Kate" (Pinnworth Productions), based on Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew, kicks off the season Sept. 12 to 21. (more...)

Typical of his entire life, Donny Rowan has been pressing the same crosswalk button at the same traffic light on the same street corner for 20 years. Finally, after placing all his possessions on his front lawn with a sign reading 'Here's my life, make me an offer,' he attaches that same button to the easy chair in his attic and uses it to take him into an alternate universe. Steven Dietz's 'Rocket Man,' which opens August 29 and continues through September 14, 2014 at the Black Box Theatre, 430 N. Downtown Mall in Las Cruces, details his entertaining and engaging journey. NSTC has produced Dietz's 'Becky's New Car, 'Still Life With Iris,' and 'More Fun than Bowling'at the Black Box Theatre and his 'Dracula' was performed at NMSU several years ago. (more...)

Eric Bogosian's TALK RADIO to Begin Performances Next Month at The Chain Theatre

Variations Theatre Group will present Eric Bogosian's Pulitzer Prize-nominated play TALK RADIO beginning September 12th, with the Opening Night set for Tuesday, September 16th at The Chain Theatre. Inspired by the 1984 murder of controversial shock jock Alan Berg, TALK RADIO is set in a Cleveland radio station over the course of Barry Champlain's two-hour broadcast as he's being scrutinized that night by producers fixated on taking the show national, and fueled as always by coffee, cocaine and Jack Daniel's. Barry's jousts with his unseen callers-ranging from a white supremacist to a woman obsessed with her garbage disposal-are interspersed with confrontations by his ex-deejay pal and his sometime girlfriend/producer. To kick off its 19th season, First Folio Theatre (Mayslake Peabody Estate, 31st St. & Rt. 83) is proud to present the World Premiere of the gothic drama THE GRAVEDIGGER, which previews October 1, opens October 4 and runs through November 2, 2014. The production is written by First Folio Artistic Associate Joseph Zettelmaier, who recently opened the World Premiere of his play Salvage at First Folio Theatre to sold-out audiences.
