 Inis Nua Theatre Company ends the 2016-2017 mainstage season with the American premiere of Swallow by Stef Smith. From Scotland, Swallow follows three lives intricately connected and the quiet, traumatic struggles of being human. Swallow was a 2015 Fringe First Winner and received the Scottish Arts Club Theatre Award. The Scotsman called the play, "An elegant and glowing piece of twenty-first century magic realism." Alan Gilbert Conducts Final Weeks with the NY Philharmonic

Music Director Alan Gilbert begins his final weeks by leading the New York Philharmonic in Schoenberg's A Survivor from Warsaw and Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. The program juxtaposes the tragedy and optimism of human experience through Schoenberg's depiction of the horror of the Holocaust and the message of hope, brotherhood, and joy in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. Schoenberg's A Survivor from Warsaw will feature Gabriel Ebert as narrator (in his Philharmonic debut) and the men of the Westminster Symphonic Choir, directed by Joe Miller. Beethoven's Ninth Symphony will feature soprano Camilla Tilling, mezzo-soprano Daniela Mack (debut), tenor Joseph Kaiser (debut), bass-baritone Eric Owens, and the Westminster Symphonic Choir, directed by Joe Miller. The performances will take place Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, May 5 at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, May 6 at 8:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. The program will be presented without intermission. JAYME STONE'S LOMAX PROJECT Comes to Hartford

As part of THE AMERICAN ROOTS FESTIVAL, the Autorino Center for the Arts and Humanities at the University of Saint Joseph presents two concerts of Jayme Stone's Lomax Project and one free community workshop. All activities will be located on the University's main campus at 1678 Asylum Avenue, West Hartford, Conn. The concerts will be performed on March 31 and April 1, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. with Mama's Marmalade from Amherst, MA to play an opening set. On March 30, 2017 at 6 p.m., Jayme Stone will also be leading a free TED-style talk about how he worked his way through the immense Lomax archive to create this live touring performance. (more...)

Bridge Repertory Theater, in a co-production with Playhouse Creatures, presents Emily Mann's MRS. PACKARD, a drama inspired by true events, chronicling one woman's fight for the right to freely express her opinion, even if it differed from that of her husband.
