BWW Review: Theatrical Wonders of Wonder Appear in MKE Ballet's Astonishing ALICE
by Peggy Sue Dunigan - May 20, 2016

If ever a story captured the wonder of childhood dreams and fantasies, then Lewis Carroll's novel 'Alice's Adventures In Wonderland' travels to this hidden places in the heart and mind. Milwaukee Ballet's absolutely astonishing production of Alice (in wonderland) transports Carroll's magical stories to the stage in captivating theatrical style. Septime Webre's choreography, Liz Vandal's concept and costume design, James Kronzer's scenic design and Clifton Taylor's lighting design recreate Carroll's surreal world with those wonders of wonders completely intact. A ballet conceived for The Washington Ballet in 2012, Artistic Director Michael Pink imported the lush, full length ballet for his brilliant company, the Ballet Program II and students of the Milwaukee Ballet School and Academy. BWW Review: INTO THE WOODS at Candlelight Dinner Playhouse
by Felicia Tassone - Jun 7, 2016

Sondheim.  A name which can instill both fear and awe in the mind of any actor.  Of the three shows with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine, Into the Woods has always been the most popular with theatres across the country, and also the most problematic. Many people would say the problem with the show is that it has a punchy first half, followed by a preachy second.  This is a problem with Candlelight Dinner Playhouse's current production of Into the Woods, running now through July 10th.  (more...)

As a 4th and 5th grader, she contributed ongoing comic strips in her school's High School newspaper: How to Survive 4th Grade, and How to Survive 5th Grade. She has also, from a very young age, loved musicals. As best as she can remember, Bronwyn was 5 when she was taken to Beauty and the Beast starring Donny Osmond as Gaston. Mother Victoria Brown was a fan and the two waited for an autograph. 'There were all these ladies my mom's age going crazy. They were like trampling me and I started crying. He picked me up and talked to me. I've gone to the stage door ever since.' (more...)

BWW Review: BROADWAY NOIR Sets New York's Finest Up Against Broadway Babies
by Shari Barrett - Jun 13, 2016

Last year at the Hollywood Fringe Festival, I discovered CAC Studios and their own unique brand of musical theatre entertainment, musically directed by Dan Sugi who also acts and sings up a storm. So when I discovered his first full length musical creation BROADWAY NOIR was having its world premiere at Fringe this year, you can be sure I was there to see it on opening night. And the musical genius has outdone himself on this one! Continuing in the immersive style which first pulled me into his shows, Sugi's BROADWAY NOIR is being presented in the intimate backroom cabaret space at 3 Clubs, located at 1123 N. Vine Street in Hollywood, just a few steps north of Santa Monica Blvd., the famous hangout of Frank Sinatra during Hollywood's heyday. BWW Review: PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT at National Hispanic Cultural Center Journal Theater
by Devon Hoffman - Jul 6, 2016

It takes guts to do a show like Priscilla Queen of the Desert, a drag-queen pop musical based on a popular Oscar winning movie-in a venue like the National Hispanic Cultural Center's grand and elegant Journal Theater.  To do it right, the show needs to be big.  Big glitz, big musical numbers, big choreography, big audience.  Last Saturday, Albuquerque's Drag-queen performance group 'the Dolls' went as big as they could.  But because of the natural limitations that come with community theater, the show could not be enormous.  And because there wasn't enough character development to distract from these limitations, the empty spaces between each vamping glitzy drag queen began to detract.  (more...)
