Tell us a bit about Origins.

Origins is a physical theatre show based around the nature of brotherhood, grief, guilt, immortality and the possibility of redemption. The show centres around the biblical figure of Cain, living out his life in exile after killing his brother in cold blood. Audiences are presented with Cain's grim reality and haunting memories of murder as he retraces his steps to Eden and his homeland in search of answers.

Why bring it to Edinburgh?

As a theatre company, Animikii Theatre have never presented a show at Edinburgh, and relish the opportunity to present Origins to the biggest platform of theatre in the UK. Origins, which is entirely physical and contains no spoken language suits the international and multi-cultural attendees of Edinburgh, and we feel that this will be one of its main strengths as it empowers audiences no matter their nationality.

What sets it apart from other shows at the Fringe?

Origins is the ultimate combination of luscious soundscapes and iridescent lighting, with the pulsating experience of physical stage action that fills the space with play, dread, grief and passion. We have create a total experience for the audience that will excite their senses on multiple levels. We hope that Origins audiences will be challenged by what they experience. We hope for them to share the journey with Cain, and ultimately re-shape their own conceptions of the character. We hope that the audience will leave feeling like they have been immersed in multiple landscapes of both dream and memory and step out into the Edinburgh Fringe refreshed and enlivened by this perspective.

Who would you recommend comes to see your show?

Origins will delight all regular attenders of dance and physical theatre, but will also attract the theatre goer who has a particular interest in story-telling. Its epic scale and atmospheric design gives audiences a mythic experience. We believe anyone interested in grand story-telling with a desire to be moved emotionally will benefit from seeing Origins.

Are there any other performances you're hoping to catch at the festival?

We are hoping to catch Theatre Re's The Nature of Forgetting and Gecko Theatre's The Dreamer, as well as physical theatre shows by Theatre Ad Infinitum.

Timings and ticket information for Origins are available on the edfringe website.
