BWW speaks to TWIST theatre company about their 2016 Edinburgh Fringe production of Macbeth.

How would you describe your take on Macbeth?

A 21st-century musical adaptation using Shakespeare's text , R&B, Afrobeat and jazz music. Set against the cutthroat world of the British music industry - the company have devised a fresh version of this most famous of stories to really appeal to both purists and a younger audience

Are the music and lyrics all original?

The music is all original - but some of the lyrics are actually the Shakespeare's text and the rest are original.

What's inspired this production?

TV series Empire and some of the experiences of the young artists in the company, who have been trying to break into the music industry.

What's on the cards for TWIST after the Fringe?

TWIST will be playing the main stage at Hackney Empire from September 8th to 10th - alongside the run we'll be holding post-show workshops and outreach in schools.

Who would you recommend comes to see the show?

Everyone! if you love Shakespeare, this is for you; if you've never seen Shakespeare, this is definitely for you! If you love new British Diverse Music Theatre then this HAS to be for you!!
