The premise of Margaret Thatcher Queen of Soho is that the former prime minister got lost in Soho one night and became a gay icon.

The plot wears a little thin in some places but it mainly deals with section 28, a proposal to ban the promotion of homosexuality in schools. There are references to issues such as The Falklands, milk in schools and Maggie's, um, popularity, in Scotland.. and these are accompanied by musical numbers such as YMCA and It's Raining Men.

Gloriously camp and wonderfully distasteful, this makes for a very fun show. The gags are brilliant and the audience are laughing pretty much throughout.

Maggie never breaks character and is an excellent performer with very quick and witty responses to hecklers and latecomers.

While some of the jokes are not for the conservative or easily offended, if you're conservative or easily offended then Margaret Thatcher Queen of Soho was probably never going to be the show for you!

Margaret Thatcher Queen of Soho runs at Assembly George Square Gardens until August 24th.
